Busted on no front plate!!!

Can you believe that I got pulled over for no other reason than not having a front plate? Not speeding, or doing anything illigal. Cop was going the opposite direction at night, turned arround and pulled me over. Gave me crap about not having a model number displayed. "Can you help me out here buddy? What kind of car is this?" If she would have asked for the registration I wouldn't have had to tell her... I just don't think the cr looks right with the plate. Any one in So. Cal. have a way arround this silly law?

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!

the only solution without drilling holes into the bumper is the StrictlyZ license bracket:

i've had this bracket ever since i purchased my car.. it's very sturdy and saves me from any problems with the cops..

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!

If u received a Fix-It ticket, then u betta put that license place on and get inspected by cop other wise your license will be suspended. I know this sux but the Law is Law. I got pulled over for not having the license plate too, and cops do run your record when they pull u over. If u get pulled over 2nd time for not having front plate, get ready for some lecture from cop. I know cuz It happed to me 2wice.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!

That's too bad. There is no way, that I know of, to get around it. That's one of my primary worries also. I believe the front plate is required because of the intersections that are "photo" enforced. I have seen guys in their street racers with their front plates just inside the windshield, on the passenger side of the dashboard. I don't think that will fix your ticket, but you may be able to take the Z bracket off after it is fixed, and then just lay your front plate on your dash for future run-ins.

One year without a front plate here in NJ where they are super **** about car items. Still no problems *knock on wood.* But you couldn't BS your way out of the ticket? I've been pulled over 6 times and zero tickets... for the plate that is.

Hey guys I did some research about plate laws! Most of them require "proper" display of a plate saying exterior of front of vehicle. Bumper, grill. I even found in some states its illegal to display a tag inside the car. I think it suck too by the laws the law. Its a big fine here in Ohio, and most of the time we don't get "fix-it" tickets

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!

In CA, it's law to have both plates on, one front, one back. Directly from the code:

************************************************** ********
5200. When two license plates are issued by the department for a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear. When one license plate is issued for use upon a vehicle, it shall be attached to the rear thereof.

5201. License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging and shall be mounted in a position to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible. The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 60 inches from the ground, and the front license plate shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground, except as follows:
(a bunch of stuff here that doesn't apply to normal cars)

(f) No casing, shield, frame, border, or other device that obstructs or impairs the reading or recognition of a license plate by a remote emission sensing device, as specified in Sections 44081 and 44081.6 of the Health and Safety Code, shall be installed on, or affixed to, a vehicle.
************************************************** ********

The law is to maximize the ability of law enforcment personell as well as bystanders to identify vehicles that may be used in a crime, and to later identify and locate witnesses that may provide information related to a crime.

That said, I don't have a front plate either, nor do I plan to put one on (for now). None of my cars here in CA (10 in 14 years) have had front plates, and I've never been stopped.

There is a way. Just say you didn't have a bracket to put the plate on. take a photo of the car with the plate on now. Show the judge that you were waiting for bracket to come in and to prove you did put it on already

This is absolutely false. The one and only reason front plates are required is to generate MONEY by pulling people over and issuing BS tickets.

Get some double sided tape, slap on the plate and tell the idiots at the local pig department to sign the damn thing off.

As you are leaving the pig department, simlply pull the plate right off. I did that when I used to live in Cali. Also, it's always funny to ask the pigs if they have anything better to do when getting pulled over for nonsense like that.

Gdupg35, frankly I am embarrased to drive the same model car that you do. Not only was your post ignorant and spiteful, but the advice you provided could very well lead to someone getting additional tickets.

This board was great about a year ago before all the high school kids' parents started buying them G's.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!

Ncozby, first of all I'm pointing out the fact that SOME cops are completely useless and waste our precious tax dollars pulling people over for not having a front license plate.

No one truly NEEDS advise in this situation. It's the law in some places, and I for one choose to disregard the law in favor of my vehicle looking more asthetically pleasing.

Your frivolous attacks on my character for giving "bad advise" shoud be directed to the penny-pinching politicians with their greedy Shylock hands in your pockets.

By the way, I'm positive I am older than you are and still find it humorous to undermine the integrity of jealous cops with nothing better to do than to harass people with nice vehicles.

(My guess is that you are a cop)

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!

Ncozby. I was just gonna post how I hate those pigs so much, talking to them pisses me off.

I'm positive that I'm younger than you. At this point, I will infer from your post, that you either have some close relation to a cop, or you have had an experience that makes you sentimental to cops. I seriously have no regard, in the most part, for the government in which we live in.

Stupid laws such as license plate laws plainly are made so cops can pull you over. I've been pulled over multiple times in my 1982 280zx. The first question was NOT license and registration. Rather, I quote "What year is your 280?". I've gotten SEAT BELT tickets. I got a warning for "CUTTING OFF A POLICE OFFICER", more like NOT signalling while changing lanes. In my city, they're utterly useless. I live in a upper-middle class area where there is virtually no crime, except cops controlling the curfew.

Cops are a waste of our tax dollars. We pay them taxes with our hard earned money, so we can get tickets, to help fund the city's deficits. Put them in cities that need cops.

You are most likely incorrect by accusing this board of being young teens with cars bought by their parents. I think you'll find that most, and I am not one of them, the members on this board have paid for this car with their OWN money. I think you need to pay them some respect before you post such blatantly offensive comments.
