Busted on no front plate!!!
Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
Some cops are good, some just perpetuate the negative stereotypes a lot of us already have. My grandfather was the chief of police in Indianapolis, and I will GLADLY tell you that a lot of guys on the force were class-envious, and utterly useless human beings-- and that's what HE said about them.
B U T
A lot are not. Some of the greatest, most heroic, and most giving people I've known wear the uniform. These guys and gals put their lives on the line to protect our rights, and every so often it can get to be a pain. We can't judge the entirety of the force by a few bad apples, nor a bunch of good ones.
Cops that do nothing but hand out useless citations are the ones I can't stand-- I once got a speeding ticket for 47 in a 45. Tell me that guy didn't have too much time on his hands... He was a deputy in Boone county, and I'm sure had never laid a hand on his gun other than when he threatened his brother when he caught him in bed with his sister. Literally. It was in the paper.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
Funny thing is that since I moved from "white suburbia" (Ventura County in California) to Las Vegas I have not heard of one person getting a ticket for not having a front license plate or for having tinted windows.
Not one cop has ever given me a second look out here and there are a dime a dozen vehicles without front plates and 5% tint on their windshields. (I looked up the local regulations and you are required to have a front plate in Las Vegas and limo tint on the windshield is obviously illegal.)
That is my point about certain police officers...it's all about meeting the weekly quota in low crime areas.
DragonGCoupe - I noticed you are from So. Cal. This is one of the (many)reasons I got out of that god forsaken place. I simply couldn't give into the politically charged vehicle restrictions of Crapifornia any longer.

Oh-- PS.
Age has never equalled maturity in any time or society. Older members have shown curmudgeon tendencies, and younger ones have shown their youth. Both can be a pain in the a**. Both can be excellent contributors. We needn't separate this community further with useless labels of class and age. Aren't the MT/AT Coupe/Sedan conflicts enough? Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
There are good cops and bad cops.
" I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS. CHRISTMAS DAY 1996 HERE IN L.A. A COP GOING THE OTHER DIRECTION MADE A U-TURN AND PULLED ME OVER FOR NO FRONT PLATE. I WAS DRIVING MY BIG BRO'S BLACK 325IS WITH 18'S RACING DYNAMICS. I SAID TO THE COPS, ITS CHRISTMAS, THEY JUST CONTINUED TO WRITE THE TICKET. "NO RACE ISSUE HERE BECAUSE I WAS THE SAME RACE AS THE COPS". AFTER THEY GAVE ME A TICKET FOR NO FRONT PLATE, THEY WALK OVER TO THEIR PATROL CAR TURNED AROUND AND SAID " MARRY CHRISTMAS". THIS INCIDENT TURNED A GOOD ME INTO A NON-CARING PERSON EVER SINCE.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
I'll never forget (I'm sure I've told the story on here before) about almost getting shot for having tinted windows and no front license plate.
Around 1996 I had a full-sized extra Cab Chevy truck. (Black with all of the windows limo tinted except for the windshield.)
At a gas station in the San Fernando Valley I noticed a cop look into my window while I was inside the store paying the cashier. I decided to hang around inside to avoid driving off and getting a ticket.
The next thing I know, 2 more cop cars arrive, and a total of 6 cops are "staking-out" the gas station with their weapons drawn.
The cops even came through the store with their guns pointed, and walked right past me.
I assumed that a criminal was somewhere in the vicinity and proceeded to walk out of the gas station store and back to the pump to get into my truck. It was at this point I realized that I WAS THE CRIMINAL and was manhandled, thrown against my truck and had 6 guns pointed at me. All for TINTED windows. The moronic idiots stated that a truck just like mine was reported stolen. RIIIIIIIGHT!
I don't have prejudice against cops in general even after this incident, but this validates the typical attitute and lack any true "crime-fighting" Southern California cops are known for.
Sorry for the long post, but after the COUNTLESS run-ins with the law I encountered in Southern California I was made to feel like a criminal simply for having a nice vehicle.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
The cop was probably being an a$$ because he had to work during Christmas so he was already in a bad mood to begin with. Those are the types of cops that I hate. The ones that harass you for no reason and give you unreasonable tickets. The ones that can't seem to separate professionalism with their own personal issues. But hey, the world is not perfect and I definately see both sides as a civilian and a marine.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
The problem with SoCal cops is they have to give tickets.
The reason you ask?
Reason:
About 90% of the criminals they do arrest get off and then sue the police for profiling or some other crap.
Californians should stop letting the ACLU run their state, lol.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
gdupg35. You should have reported that stuff to the city or the local pig department.
And the reference story above was very funny.
I can't just get up and leave Cali. =\ One. I really like it here, though there are many negatives to the environment. Two, I'm still going to high school around here. And three, I plan to attend one of the UC schools. So I guess I'm stuck with the useless pigs for many more years.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
I've said this before, but the problem is not the police, they are just doing their job. That is a very short-sighted, symptom-driven, and completely false point of view. The problem is the system. Work to change the system or deal with it, it's as simple as that. If you can't deal with it, then move to somewhere more to your liking.
Hating the police is not the answer. Those "pigs" as you call them, live 20years less than the nation's average, make squat for money, and risk thier lives every day for the people in their community, including the ungrateful. One of those "pigs" may indeed save your life one day, or that of someone you care about, and the best part is they will do it just the same whether they know you hate them or not, because it's their job.
It stinks that you've been ticketed on what you believe to be B.S. charges, but it's the law. Laws are agreed upon by the majority of the people in your state and country, so it's them you should have a problem with, not the police. Help change the law(s), abide by them, move away, or pay the price if you get caught like the rest of us.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
Shader7. You give in to the system in such a manner as the government is aiming for. By accepting the state in which you live, you've sacrificed the false-notion that this nation was built on. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? I think not. We live intertwined in a system of treacherous and Machiavellian politics. Make a stand. This is how the government takes more and more control of our lives. When you accept the situation around you, believing them to be somehow justified, you have sacrificed your own liberties.
I don't know the cops you've met, but the ones in my city have yet to shoot at someone. If they're tactful use of the radar gun and ticket-issuing ability matched their skill as enforcers, perhaps I would respect them.
However, not in one situation have I seen a cop doing something worthy. As for the disadvantages you mentioned of being a cop, was it not their choice to begin with. No one is drafted into the job. They're either there to instill their true nature, one of passion for helping others out (I would place these under the TRUE cops section) or they messed school up so bad that they had no other thing to do. Either way, it was their choice.
If you can find me a "majority" of people who agree to getting a ticket for no front plate, then I will call bullsh*t. The reason I have two drilled holes in my front bumper and had to spend 40 bucks on a nice Infiniti plate frame would be due to the absurd reason for that law.
Politicians make up the laws. We are controlled by their games. True. But that doesn't mean we have to play by their rules.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
For all you police haters in the thread, don't blame them for giving you tickets. For the most part, they are just doing their jobs. Civil disobedience is a wonderful thing. It is one of the things that makes America great. But if you practice it, it must be with the knowledge and acceptance that if you get caught, you must pay the price. If you are going to knowingly violate the law by eschewing a front plate in a state that requires them, you must do it with the knowledge that you will get stopped. And when you do get stopped, don't act suprised or get angry. Deal with it! If you feel the law is wrong, change it. That's what they call democracy.

Re: Busted on no front plate!!!
Well put Dragon.
The point remains: Help change the system, and in the meantime either play by the rules or pay the price when you get caught outside the lines.
However, condemning a system while simultaneously living in the luxury of it's lap (which is quite luxurious by world standards), and then doing nothing about it (except breaking the law in defiance and later complaining when you get caught) won't get you what you want. In fact, by doing so you are perpetuating the existing system to a far greater extent than I.
