Road noise

Does road noise increase if my tire tread is warn out? It's pretty much time for me to change my tires and I never noticed the road noise this loud before.

Thanks for the help.

It does on these cars. Most people start to get pretty bad road noise at somewhere around 15K miles, depending on how hard they drive in the corners and in braking. I'm at about 25.7K now on my stock Michilin PS tires and mine are fairly loud.

Thanks

That's a relief. I'm glad it's just the tires and nothing else.

You have 25,000 on the stock tires? When I bought my car last week I was told to expect about 18,000 miles before I needed a new set.

No i have about 19k on them. I need to get new set and I'm thinking about just buying a used factory rays 19" wheels with new tires. However, now is the road noise louder if you go up to 19's?

It depends on how you drive. I don't really beat my car that much... and things seem to last longer than expected.

I was just out there this weekend measuring the remaining pad runout on my OEM front brake pads(Brembo, which tend to wear out fast). I figured I was probably within a few weeks of needing pad replacement, but I still have .26" left on the outer and like .25" on the inners... with the recommended minimum before replacement being .03". I guess those Project MU pads won't be going on for a little bit longer.

By the way, in regards to my tires... they need to be replaced soon. I could probably get away with another 3K miles on them, but I'm just going to replace them within the next week or 2 because I have a pretty fast leak coming from my rear drivers side tire due to a plug/patch from a nail last year that is apparently now starting to give way.

Anything over 15-18,000 miles on our tires is generally pushing it.
