Cost of repair.

So my cd player is dead. Unfortunately my car is no longer under warranty. So i was just wondering if anyone on the boards have taken their car in that wasn't under warranty to get the cd player fixed and how much it cost. I would go double din but Im a poor college student Thanks for the help everyone.

Well, i live in alabama, so the west coast option wouldn't do me much good lol.

Would it be a good idea to take it to a dealership?

Try and buy a radio off someone on the board thats done a double din conversion. I sold my radio and trim piece to a board member with a similar problem as yours last month for $110. I've heard that dealers charge upwards of $1000 which in my mind is totally not worth it. You can do a decent double din conversion your self for about $800-$1000.

Hell no. Now might be a good time to go aftermarket.

Also, swapping out the radio is very easy and there are plenty of DIY on this board. So try and bargain with someone here to buy there old radio.

One other thing I would do is go to the audio section on this board and look at who is doing a DD conversion now or just completed one. PM them to see if they are willing to sell their old radio. You will probably get faster results that way.

No, unfortunately my cd player just gives me the dreaded "CD Error FO" message. If i can't find someone with a factory HU I may end up just taking it apart and try to fix it, but if i break it, go double din

If you're willing to take a slight risk, you could try E-bay too. I just did a search and found a few for sale up there.

Here's one:

Yea, I already tried bidding on that exact one, and I think the bidding got up to around 350 dollars with the reserve not being met.....I think for that kind of money i'll just save some more and go double din.....

on my fix it bill for the cd error i think it said $90. But i'd say in your case best bet is to go DD or stop listening to CD's. But the cd option i don't think you really can change that.

Don't you hate turning your car on and hearing the changer clicking away
