Dealer for Maintenance?

Hello all. I just purchased an '07 liquid platinum 6CMT coupe a couple of months ago and am enjoying breaking it in.

I'm curious how many of you use the dealer for maintenance and how many go elsewhere. I'm not talking mods necessarily, but scheduled maintenance and also repairs. I know the dealers want you to chain yourself to them and their super duper ownership programs so they get every last bit out of you they can, but I'm wondering if it makes sense to look elsewhere for a quality shop.

Sweet car!!

If the maintenance can be done in the garage without a lift I will do it myself.

As for repair, as long as it has warranty I will go to the dealer.

If you are attempting to save a few dollars . . . Sure, you can opt to either perform some of the work yourself or seek out a shop other than the dealer. However, be sure to keep records of all the work. Especially, the oil changes. These records may come in handy in the event that there is a question with regard to warranty related work, down the road.

The Dealer is Cool!!

I have an 05 and I take mine to the dealer for all issues and so far they have hooked me up big. I have been in for brake problems ad they upgraded me to the brembro brakes. I went in the other day and complained about my navigation being not up to date. They informed me to buy a new dvd. I complained and made a big deal of having to spend 200$ for a DVD. My Service guy gave me the DVD upgrade for free. Another time I went in and had some problems with my tires that I had purchased online. My service guy took my car and called me that afternoon and he had some extra tires and installed two new tires on it so they would match. What a great guy.

I would not normally suggest the dealers but here in SD. They hook me up. All work done at the dealer comes with a warranty that will at last the car.

I also go to the dealer, mainly because the car is under warranty and because I am born again OEM follower. And I get a free wash every time.

if you only go to the dealer for free work, when you really need them on your side for something major like an engine or trans swap...they would be more helpful since you have given them business in the past, but its up to you. saving 10 dollars here and there on oil changes and what not can be important to some people.

I recently had my 3700 mile check done at the dealer. I provided my own oil and filter, Dealer charged me $8 for the labor and documentation included with a handwash makes it well worth it.

You guys are lucky then. I've seen the monkeys that do the car washing and the contribute to most of the knicks and scratches on a car.

No one will care more about your car than yourself.

First choice for dealer 'routine service' is a Nissan dealer. They trump Infiniti's prices every day of the week. At least in my area.
Next choice, and probably better if you don't plan any work yourself, is a reputable mechanic.
Last choice if you don't give a hoot about your car, Jiffy Lube, etc. A your own risk.

From my experience, I use my dealer for just about everything that is a minor service issue (oil changes, etc) I have used the same service manager for the past 3 years and have a built a good business relationship with him and I've got a lot of little extras replaced on my car for free (scuffed trim pieces & shift boot that a cigarette fell on and burned a whole through) He also looks the other way when it comes to aftermarket parts on my coupe. I say find a Service manager you like and stick with them for the duration of your warranty period. Synthetic Oil changes cost me $72 at my Infiniti Dealer.

Normal Maintenance........!

If you're not a DIY kinda guy try taking your G to a Nissan dealership. Charges
are gererally less and you get the same kinda service. If you have 3K miles
on your '07 it's time to start using quality oil like Mobil 1 synthentic....best for
you car!

one more benefit to using the dealer consistantly...
they send me coupons all the time, which generally brings their prices down to about 'normal' pricing. Like $15 off next visit, or 10% off etc. Helps mainly with oil changes.

Also, for me, its conveniant to get a loaner vehicle so i can do my oil changes and maintanence during business hours, and not have to give up weekend time.

Plus the car wash is nice. not amazing, but saves $15 every once in a while.

Another tip,
Last time i was there (santa monica) I asked about every single item on the 'list of things to do' on the 15K service, and just kinda gave them crap for each (even if it sounded fine) and he took off 10% by the end. Kind of a...'ok, um, well, just do all of it and i'll give you 10% off' (which ended up almost being cheaper than taking off the things i wanted to take off cuz they were'nt really necessary, might as well have them done free!)

They hand wash mine each time because it wont clear their wash...a little respect and courtesy goes a long way
