Question about 6MT ****.

Does the **** come off by twisting couter-clockwise? I tried twisting it pretty hard, but it didn't seem to budge at all. I have my Nismo titanium **** I'd like to put in the stock shifter's place.

Re: Question about 6MT ****.

It's been covered before. From a previous post..

All you do is turn it counterclockwise. Try Sticking your fingers through the leather on the bottom part of the shift boot. Pull up, it's held in with clips. Don't pull too hard because the hazard light harness is still attached to that piece. Good Luck =)

Re: Question about 6MT ****.

Use pair of pliers to get a better grip and turn it conterclockwise. HOWEVER !!! make sure to wrap the **** with a cloth first so you won't scratch and ruin the leather.

Re: Question about 6MT ****.

It IS covered somewhere else here...check the FAQs to start...I recall a warning from someone not to force the **** without a second wrench holding the shift shaft...have to remove the leather boot to get access to the flattened notches for the second wrench.

Don't try to take the **** off relying on the transmission to hold the lever in place alone.

Re: Question about 6MT ****.

I had a buddy of mine come over and we attemped to remove the shift **** using a pipe wrench, and a towel. He secured the stick with the towel and wrench while I attemped to turn the shifter counterclockwise. The result, a sore set of hands, and the shifter still not budging. I'll look into trying to remove the leather boot before trying next time, thanks for the tips guys.

Guess I had better start hitting the gym.

Re: Question about 6MT ****.

use a hair dryer or something similiar to heat it up. mine unscrewed right off during the hot sumer months. I would never use a wrench. Too many wrench heads on here have completely scratched up their shifter and tore up the OEM ****.
