g35 coupe manual 2004 idles at 450rpm

Hey you guys i just joined the forum kinda new. I have a 2004 g35 coupe 6 speed and my car idles at 400-500 rpm. I was wondering if that was normal because usually in the beginning of the day when i first start my car it will be right below 1000rpm. but around 10 minutes after warm-up it will drop to 400-450. Normal???
Thanks guys!

you thread title is misleading. when i cold start my idle starts at 2k rpm, then continues to drop when warming up. it will settle to about 800 rpm.

hahaha that would be pretty funny if your car really did idle at 4500 rpm! you wouldnt even be able to get the car going without toasting the clutch. anyways its normal for warmup idle to be higher than warm idle.

yes that is normal, especially when the engine is cold.
the car will start and go to 1,000rpm (maybe higher, cant recall and dont have the service manual in front of me)

then it will drop to about 500-700rpms depending on a number of things including temp, a/c status, load, etc.

as i posted above, your idle depends on whether you have the ac running, engine temp and a number of other factors. it shouldnt be too much below 500, if ever at all (the min idle is about 500 iirc)

if it idles at 400, then id note it to the dealer next time you get an oil change or whatever...if i recall right, theres a +/-50rpm fluctuation permitted per the service manual, so if it touches450 every so often thats probably ok, but again i dont think it should be idling at 400 or less

when i got my 04 coupe manual new, it idled really low and sometimes went lower and back up, under 500rpm. they reprogrammed something and it's been fine since.

most cars should idle around 600 rpms, I had a shop verify.

+1 My 6MT idles right at 600 since day one and now has 71K, still idles like this with AC off and it's fine with me cause that saves fuel... I get great mileage (city and highway) compared to many postings I've read here.

How are you reading the tach? It doesn't go down to 0 you know... Read from the 1K line and each line below is -200 RPM (if I remember correctly).

Mine idles at 600 without A/C. It wouldn't keep running at 400.
