Racing Experience

Got my G35 Coupe 6MT because I wanted a fast, sporty car. My boyfriend tells me I drive too conservative (like an old lady), so I have been making it a point to drive with more speed and recklessness (see what kind of influence my boyfriend has over me).

So I was on the freeway this one night when I decided to race an Integra. It had barely started to sprinkle when I passed the Integer going 80 MPH. The Integra welcomed the race and before I knew it, I was going 110 MPH. To my surprise, the Integra was right on my butt and before I could shake him off, I had to slow down for my upcoming exit. As I slowed down, the car came in front of my car and signaled his blinkers left and then right. I had no idea what it meant.

I am not a car fanatic and never knew an Integra would even go 110 MPH. This came as a big surprise to my amateurish mind. It was fun and scary going at such a fast speed. I heard horror stories afterwards from other people on the consequences of getting caught at such an unsafe speed, so I’ll probably go back to driving like an old lady.

Re: Racing Experience

Don't worry, there are many intergras with mods out there so that they can hang with our G's. My roomate has a Type R witha Jackson Racing Supercharger. I can't wait to race him when I get my coupe, but I know it will be a good race (except for his massive torque steer at the start). The intergra driver was most likely just giving you props or a thank you for the race. A respectful signal.

Re: Racing Experience

As far as i know, flashing signals means that person won the race, it shows up in almost all street race videos. I HIGHLY DOUBT it was a signal of gratitude. Im not suprised he kept up, after all, he did have a head start on acceleration? The fact that you were able to stay ahead is great, it shows that your car made up for the loss of time.

Re: Racing Experience

Flashing lights don't always mean he won the race. Plus, it did seem like he had quite a start on you.

Re: Racing Experience

The way i interpreted the story. They were both on the highway driving and she just zoomed by an integra, and it chased.

Re: Racing Experience

true hazard lights on is a sign of being "called out"(to race) or they won.

That was wengyn's first race so she probably didn't push the car that hard. Probably starting in 6th gear and never down shifted vs. the integ pushing the car at 7k rpm in 4th gear. =)

Good job though, next time you'll make him feel like he was standing still

Re: Racing Experience

Yeah, I passed him and he caught up. But to give the proper props to the G35, I did not accelerate much after I passed him. It was my first race and I'll be wiser next time then to slow down after passing my competitor.

Re: Racing Experience

I’m still trying to get the hang of driving a manual, but once the basics are perfected, I’ll work on improving my acceleration skills.

Can’t wait until the day I leave others in my dust…

Re: Racing Experience

According to my Dreamcast video game "Tokyo Xtreme Racer", flashing the brights calls someone out to race. I don't know much about this street racing stuff though.

I prefer to do most of my racing off the line to about 70 mph or so. That's where most of your driver skill is anyway on straight line races. I don't like getting going at speeds over 100 mph on the street in a car. There are far too many obstacles (SUV drivers with cell phones, etc.. ) and how the h*ll would you explain it to a cop?

Re: Racing Experience

haha my cousin in-law has that game. It's so funny, it goes to that special view and sends these light waves to the car. Maybe that's how it is in Japan.

They just use hazards now. sometimes they do high beam you, or use the dome light.

Street racing was fun, but I grew up and thought about it. It is very stupid and dangerous. your putting other people at risk.

After a car show, I saw a pile up of 4 civics. They were all smashed agains the center divide. It's just not worth it anymore. I rather be able to drive my car another day then lose it to a few minutes of fun.

Re: Racing Experience

Heh.. The light waves on the car are supposed to be the person flashing the brights at you. It was always a critisism of the game that the brights only seemed to flash on the car and not on the road. Oh well.. It's just a game.

I'll race people at stop lights, but I don't drive around looking for races and get involved in street races. Heh.. If someone flashed their 4 ways at me, I might think that they are in trouble. I usually flash my 4 ways to people that are in the left lane on the highway that shouldn't be there because they are driving way too slow.

Re: Racing Experience

I would have to disagree that most of your driving 'skill' is displayed in your ability to straightline race. Otherwise who would care how well a car handled around corners? The ability to maximize speed through corners takes far more talent and finesse than shifting through 2 or 3 gears....

Anyone else agree?

Re: Racing Experience

Cornering is a whole other ball of wax and it takes considerable skill. I'm talking about racing in a straight line. I was just saying that I'd much rather race someone from a stop until 70 mph instead of do a roll on at 60mph and race until 110-120 mph.
