DIY Grounding

For all you cheap-skates.....I made my own grounding kit. Total cost $31.00

I went to a car audio store and asked for some 4 gauge ground cable scrap...the secret is look for scrap pieces...you can get a discount. I went to a local hardware store and got one 4 foot piece of 3/8 shrink wrap, 4 gauge connectors, one battery terminal.

Re: DIY Grounding

What did you use to crimp the connectors? Did the $31 cover materials only or did that also include any specialized tools (like a 4 gauge wire crimper)?

I'd be curious to know if you notice any improvements after your install too...

Re: DIY Grounding

Used a screwdriver and xacto knife to cut the plastic around the wire. I cut off about 1cm of plastic and put the connector on....then I pressed it flush to the connector, used a hammer and thick flat-head to crimp it down.

My compliments. That actually looks better than some of the ones that are sold on e-bay! Make sure the crimp is really secure though, or it could add more noise to the system. You want to put a LOT of pressure on the crimp! That and the quality of the wire are the two factors in ensuring that you get an optimal H-G signal.

Re: DIY Grounding

I appreciate the post and hint....after seeing Stillens kit I knew I could make the same. Afterall, it was Tsunami Car audio cable. I got Lightning Audio 435 strand 4 gauge cable.

That crimp is pounded tight. THanks for all your input "G".

The crimps on my kits are tight too.
