Unhappy Got rear ended

Tonight I got rear ended by some idiot. Rear bumper will definitely need to be fixed and one of my aftermarket rims is bent. A police report was made and the guy reported the accident with his insurance company (I called his insurance and got the claim number). My question is what should I do? Should I file a claim w/ my insurance company? Is there a way I could work w/ his insurance company so that they cut me a check? I'd like to have the work done with 2 shops I've worked with in the past and have been satisfied w/ I'd also would like to avoid paying the 500 deductible if i were to file it with my insurance company. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. Please bear w/ me as this is the first time I deal with this.

Thanks
-Carlos

should not be a deductible for you, if his insurance is paying. U should inform UR ins and what shop UR going to have the repairs done by. U just need to know what his insurance is going to pay for.

Rear ending in this car is expensive, if the impact bar got damaged you are looking at around 2-2.5k with the bumper cover being replaced, if you have frame damage to the rear frame add on another 700-1k. you will have to do the insurance thing unless you are going to eat the whole 4k bill

sorry to hear about ur accident.. =\....

you don't need to report anything to your insurance. call the other persons insurance and they will handle everything. when they write you a check, it usually it doesn't cover the full cost of the damage. when you take it in to get fixed, the body shop will call the insurance company for any additional damages that wasn't written on the estimate, and they will write them a check..

any pics? good luck

yeah definitely dont report to your insurance.. my sister got rear ended in my G like 2 mos after I got it. She called the cops and when the cop arrived the guy stopped speaking english, so the cop was even more furious.. I took the police report contacted his insurance and they paid every last penny, even paid for a rental for me while my car was in the shop of my choice.. it took a few phone calls, just be patient and persistent...
