Re: Trade G for Z ?
Howcome you ask? Are you considering this trade yourself? A lot of the members here did test-drive the 350Z before they purchased their G, so they could probably help you out if you be more specific (of course the advice would be biased towards the G since that is what we all took).

Re: Trade G for Z ?
I'm considering it. For me both cars are striking in different ways. The Z has lines of a nice pure sports car. The G is a luxury sports coupe with a certain european flair. I chose the G35 coupe b/c of the rear seats when needed and luxury/better service. After never really using the rear seats at al, I'm beginning to appreciate the lines of the Z more with time. Just curious whether others feel this way on either side of the fence.
Re: Trade G for Z ?
I feel the same way but I'm over that phase where I think, "Damn, I should have gotten that" whenever I see a Z. My one excuse is that there will be like a million Zs on the road one day and not as many G coupes. But I feel like I'm seeing more and more G coupes everyday and the only time I ever use my back seats is to give people rides places. I thought that I would actually need them but apparently not. I think the Z looks better too. Oh well....
Re: Trade G for Z ?
When I bought the G, the most I thought I would do with it was maybe put some wheels on it. I've shopped around for wheels and don't see anything out there that really justifies paying 2-3 thousand over the 18s while making the car look dramtically better at least for me. On the other hand, I get that feeling like you when I see a Z on the road but especially with aftermarket wheels. To me, there are several wheels that look real good on a Z and makes it look alot better while I can't say the same for a G.
Re: Trade G for Z ?
You guys know about the Z being unreliable?? I've been reading a lot of forums (here and a lot of other places as well) where a lot of Z drivers complain they bought a lemon. Now I've read in a few publications stating at least 2.5 million 350z's are being recalled for a major engine problem that could cause the engine to stop. Sure glad I bought a G.
Re: Trade G for Z ?
I've thought about dumping my G for a Z for many reasons.
First, I didn't realize how high I would be sitting in the G compared to the Z. The Z is 3 inches shorter and I wish I had that. I feel like I'm looking eye to eye with people driving Camry's, which detracts from the sporty feel I wanted. Also, speaking about the seats, what maniac decided to make the seat rails and seat controls so narrow for the US market. My left leg goes numb on long trips and my right leg is always sore. Come-on Infiniti, what were you thinking?
Second, I really didn't like the look of the Z when I first saw it, but it's starting to grow on me. I think it would look great with a few exterior mods, whereas the Coupe just looks tacky with too many add-ons. It's classy lines just get spoiled with big wings and spoilers.
Mainly, I'm disappointed that the G doesn't feel as sporty as I was hoping. It feels tall, heavy and slow (not acceleration but in changing direction).
I think the G is more of a sporting coupe that a true sports car, which is what I guess I really wanted. I'm just too practical and couldn't look past the more conservative styling, back seat and trunk. Besides, I fell in love with the look of the car when it was shown at the NY Auto Show and lusted after it for more than a year before I really got to see one in person. By then the lenses on my rose colored glasses were too thick to see straight.
I'll probably lower it, put on some different wheels and tweak it until I like it more, but I'll still wonder if I should have gotten the Z. I'm not trying to bash the G, this is just the obsessive/compulsive thoughts that I have to live with. It's a great car, best looking, value, on the market in my opinion. It just isn't a perfect fit for me and I'm too cheap of a bastard to take the $4k hit on dumping it after 6 months.

I feel exactly the way you do on some of your points. I too debated for a long time between z/g but the new york auto show coupe just sold me on it. Coming up on almost a year, I'm just wondering if I should make the change now. Seems like the depreciation value differential between both cars will widen over time with the g retaining better trade in value. So I don't know, feel just like you, don't want to lose money after a year but 2-3 yrs from now, will I love the g as much as a Z??

Re: Trade G for Z ?
They are two different cars, and I know many of you have shared the same feelings with me. I set out to buy a 350z. I ended up convinced on the Gcoupe. But everytime I see a black Z, especially one time I saw a black Track options one. I have this HUGE pang of regret. I mean, the 350z is a pure sports car. I just wish they had better trim inside, and a tad more trunk room.
I'm sure all of us lust over both, but we can only have one. I'm also sure that many of the 350z guys are asking themselves the inverse question. In fact, I know some have switched over because I saw several used 350z's in some of the Infiniti dealers I went to. Apparently they were traded in for G's. I did not see any G's at the Nissan lots though.. This could be a sign.
As for the US market design. I'm small and I love it. =) Sorry to all you big guys. I personally think the G should come about 1.5" - 2" inches lower. I plan on swapping my suspension as soon as I get the cash.
My decision on the issue: I'm waiting for the 350zx convertible to come out, then I'll have the best of both worlds.

Re: Trade G for Z ?
No, the ZX version. I'm pretty damn sure they will release the 350ZX series. It should be a total redesign.
They had 280Z, 280ZX, and then went straight to 300ZX. Since they went back to 350Z, I'm hoping they make a 350ZX series.

Re: Trade G for Z ?
I think these are classic cases of "grass-is-greener" syndrome. If you'd bought the Z you'd have wished you got the G. If you bought the G you'd wished you bought the BMW330. If you bought the BMW you'd have wished you bought the TL.....
The purchase of the car is a "snapshot" in time. IMO, the problem is that over time everybody gets a little antsy and wants a change. You're getting used to seeing your own car everyday so when you see something different you start second guessing your initial decision. Just remember that when you made the decision in the first place there we're certain things that made one more desireable than the others. If you hadn't gone with your desires at that time then you'd still be regretting NOT getting the G.
People are never satisfied which is why the car dealerships are making so much money. They're banking on that natural desire for change.

Re: Trade G for Z ?
ehhh the Z isn't really all that great. Small rear view area is uncomfortable... you can always tighten your suspension and struts to be more stiffer on your G.
The Z's rounded back end just looks kinda wierd too. as if the designer didn't complete it or something.

Re: Trade G for Z ?
Yeah, I have the same feelings about not getting a Z as some of the people on this thread. You're probably right though, if I had gotten a Z there is a high chance that I would have lusted for a G as an afterthought. I think the only thing I like about the Z more is the looks. The G has many more features than the Z and is a lot more pratical, but looks matter a lot in today's society. The G does not look bad by any means but it does lack that extra punch that the Z has. The Z just stands out more in a crowd. What really got me was when I was at a party and I had gotten out of a friend's car and some people were looking at my coupe (they didn't know it was mine) and one said, "Nice G35 coupe, I would rather have a 350Z though" and then the other one agreed. I actually get that a lot from people ("Why didn't you get a Z?" or "I saw a [insert color] Z on the road, it looked sweet!"). The sad part is, I agree with them. But the grass is always greener on the other side.
