Hey guys, I just got my clutch replaced with a OEM clutch. Got the entire new clutch kit installed and I've been noticing a little rattle when I shift to 1st from neutral. I feel the car kind of drag and here a light rattling from under the gear box like something is loose. The noise sometimes occurs and sometimes don't. More specifically, it occurs when I release the clutch after I shift into 1st. I asked the mechanic and when we went for a drive.. the rattling noise didn't occur. It didn't occur when he and I both drove, but when I drove tonight it would make the noise. WTF?

My mechanic said that that noise sometimes occurs when you don't shift smooth, but I'm pretty sure he's talking about the jerking that sometimes occurs when you dump the clutch. It doesn't explain the rattling and dragging.

 

sounds like clutch chatter possibly?

 

my car does the same thing. it used to happen a lot when i step in the clutch, coming off 1st gear at a high rev (3k+). our tranny is the trickiest. however, i want to know how to completely make it quiet. i believe it has to do witht he clutch linkage.

 

AHHHH. It's going to be fun trying to learn it. BTW I just started driving stick =)

 

I've discovered that if you rev to about 1500 rpm before shifting to first.. that helps to eliminate that rattle problem
