I did the same thing but I didn't drill into the original tow hook cover. I ordered an extra cover unpainted from Grubbs. I think it was around $10 ---it's a piece of ABS plastic..but gotta have it. I drilled into the blank...painted it and it's good to go. I keep the original in the car if I ever want to go without plates or when they repeal the Front License law (yeah right!?!)

i just drilled the hole and wow its so simple. just drill a hole in the direct center. and VIOLA. i was just a lil bit off had to make the hole a lil bigger but its still great.

Can you order another center piece from Infiniti that comes pre-painted?
I want one to drill a hole in and the other to put on when I go to meets.
