Has anybody seen the commercial for that Autopilot GPS unit? It's a cheesy commercial, but in the middle the narrator says "you could spend over a thousand dollars for a navigation system" and it shows the G35 interior and its pop-up nav screen. Of all the cars they could have shown, they picked the G.

 

Can you really blame them for choosing to feature the G's NAV? I mean what other car has such a cool pop-up screen ? [img]/w3timages/icons/cool.gif[/img]

Yep, we had a thread about this a while ago-- someone got it and said it was a waste. It was in no was GPS; you enter your current location, how fast you drive, and where you're going. It will calculate your position, not find it. Doh.

Have you seen the BMW X3? It has a nav screen that pops up out of the dash.

So do some Volvo models.

 

Yes, but there was the qualifier "Such a cool" in there, as well. Theirs aren't as cool [img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img] The Volvo one's just odd...

Well, I guess "cool" is certainly subjective.

But I'll tell you this-- as the former owner of an Acura CL-S with navigation, any screen set up high towards the windshield is a welcome change to me.

Navigation screens set lower in the dash are much more dangerous to view while driving. The Volvo screen is up on TOP of the dash (as is the BMW X3) where you can easily view it while watching the road in your peripheral vision. The G35 screen is pretty well placed too though....

 

Have you ever seen the navigation screen on the Lincoln Navigator (now is that a vehicle that should have navigation, or what?)?

It's so low that it's almost on the floor. **** poor design.

Actually, no, I was not aware that these two vehicles have pop-up screens, but hey, like I said before and like GeoBau said: ours is way cooler... and we were first to have this feature...[img]/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/img]

At the risk of sounding like an ***, I've gotta tell you that Volvo had it before Infiniti.

Maybe Infiniti will have the first HUD navigation screen that is projected onto the windshield. Now THAT would be cool!

 

Yeah, Volvo had it first. I really didn't like, it though [img]/w3timages/icons/frown.gif[/img] A dealer in Nashville gave me an S40 for a day, and an S60 the next. Both were loaded, and I just didn't like the screen all that much. It wasn't designed into the car, rather just... stuck up there.

All I've got to contribute to this thread is: I LOVE THE NAV IN THE G! I'm so glad I got it. It's not just the coolest toy in the car, but it can really be a timesaver. Love it!

The other night when we were driving around Vegas, I picked up some people, and we just plugged in our destinations for the evening and set off. Didn't know where they were, etc. but it was SO easy to find my way home, etc. at the end of the evening, and we were able to choose where to go on a whim, not print it out on MapQuest beforehand, etc. Kinda fun *****.
