Gave c32 AMG a good spanking
Re: Gave c32 AMG a good spanking
Shader7 I'll ask you.....
since he's really increased his HP...wouldn't that also require him to build up the bottom end of the motor as well...I'm pretty much from the old school of big block corvettes...and I was under the impression to increase that much torque/horsepower you must strengthen the bottom end or the power gain would be very short term in terms of reliablity...correct me if I'm wrong...my wife does all the time!!!!
thats alot of power out of a six banger IMO... 2old4this

GR8:
I don't know what Dollar did to the stress mechanicals for his supercharger installation. I can tell you that it is common for people to do both, that is FI alone with no related mods, and FI with other mods to increase durability and prolong the life of the engine.
There isn't much data yet, if any, on how the G holds up under long-term FI. However, data shows that near-square and over-square cylinders (like the Gs) generally hold up better under FI conditions than longer, thinner configurations (like the BMW 3s). My feeling is that under nominal boost, the G motor is significantly overbuilt, and would perform fine under day-to-day driving conditions using FI (excluding including N20, more on that below) with little risk as long as the car wasn't raced (I mean real racing).
Now, some people call Nitrous FI as well, and by definition they are correct. Nitrous has a basic advantage however in that not only are you increasing the O2 content, but you are cooling the charge as well, further increasing the useable fuel volume via a significant density increase. If I were running an aggressive N20 shot, I'd definitely upgrade the stress mechanicals at the same time.
When using FI of any type, by far the most important (and essential) modification is fuel tuning. If you don't get the fuel map correct, and end up with irregular distribution, you nearly always get dangerously weak F/A mixtures that increase temperature via premature detonation. This does horrible things to piston rings, causing groove damage (usually on the cylinders furthest away from the blower). Those cylinders begin to drag and eventually sieze and the next thing you know you have a rod sticking out of your crankcase.

Re: Gave c32 AMG a good spanking
whoa....you are the man....thanks for the information....so basically speaking....if anyone was to do NOS..providing your mixture per shot was not too high....if there is an inherent design flaw in the stock plemum (that 5%slope everyone refers to).....shouldn't that be the first to be replaced to ensure proper and even distribution of your air/to/fuel/no2/ratio?
as you have answered....the business of making good solid horsepower is not by simply slapping on high end/cost componets with out really having the proper balance...I often wondered if I was to change out my exhaust system for example how much would be gained and lost at each point of the power band....I like the lower end grunt since I've always had owned in my youth the big detroit iron with gobbs of low end torque...this car pulls well but the lower end of the power IMO could use some more muscle....is there a solution for the torque/drivablity...since my car is my only transportation I would like to keep all the civil driving characteristics without sacrificing too much fuel mileage as well...is this even possible w/o changing a chip or major electronic mod???sorry for rambling on and on and on.......20ld4this

Re: Gave c32 AMG a good spanking
It sounds like a supercharger is what you want (need). Being belt driven you don't suffer from lag like turbos (no matter how small they are), and you get a nice even increase across the whole power band.
Duc has made some good posts regarding exhaust system myths, peak power gains which actually make the car slower, and maintaining low-end torque. Unfortunately it's common for companies to slap out poor-quality, loud, and flashy exhaust systems that dyno a +10 peak HP increase. The misinformed and "ricer math acolytes" jump on these like crazy, and are sometimes making their cars slower in 0-60 and 1/4mi times due to torque loss where it counts.

He is right tho :-)
Someone that age driving a c32, he's either doing something right with his life or really lucky. Can't diss people just for that. Maybe the c32 is just his beater and he's got a 911GT2 for the weekend. Gotta have respect for everyone. He did give you the respect for flashing his lights. I am sure you have better use of the FI than just street racing bragging rights.
Doing 110MPH during heavy rain, I don't care if its on a freeway, please take it to desginated area. I love everyone's first reply is "oh no, bullshit C32 is way faster." Did any even notice he's doing 110mph during heavy rain.

Re: Gave c32 AMG a good spanking
It amazes me the kind of money you guys are able to thow at your rides. Power to you, but I cant help feeling you are over capitalizing and will never recover even a fraction of the money, only leading to an upset later on when the time comes to sell. Secondly I cant help but feel that at some point someone is going to come to grief with all the road racing and bragging that is going on. Part of the ownership experience is a certain maturity that comes with knowing when and how it is appropriate to use the cars power and this road racing is just not it. Way2oldforthis!!
Re: Gave c32 AMG a good spanking
I think it all comes down to an owners perspective....or personal preference....If someone wants to turbo charge his or her car and put a five foot wing on the back ....great!!!! if that what makes him happy so be it. Will all the modifications add or decrease the resale value?? well they say there's an A$$ for every seat...once again personal preferences...now about the saftey issue....
If that same individual puts a turbo and five foot wing on his or her car and then proceeds to challange every half fast car on the street...I think they should park it sell it or take public transportation....it's reckless and could prove fatal for themselves or mainly innocent people going about their daily lives....modifications to cars has been going on since the thirtys and as long as their is a market place for it it will continue....many mods actually offer not only better performance...but safer driving and handling cars..along with power comes responsibility...that goes with everything in life so to speak...if some one on this site is young and has a vast amount of money to modify their car...bless them....it all comes down to personal preference....
I think the forum to test any car be it modified or stock is in a safe and controlled enviroment....and most wouldn't think about racing in the rain .my car is enough to handle in the dry cold weather....I'm 52 years young...and I can't wait to get to ATCO raceway in april for the northeast G meet...it should prove to be a great place to meet see and race the car we all seem to enjoy to the fullest!!!
will I race....no way....I'm no longer that brave!!!! but I can' t wait to see all the mods and changes on all our posters cars as well as the 350Z's that will be there. call me a car nut...fine...call me foolish or irresponsible...ain't happening!!! just an old mans opinion...2old4this..maybe not after all!!!

Re: Gave c32 AMG a good spanking
Racing in the rain? Sorry, but not only is that not too bright, but it also proves NOTHING about which car is faster (unless you're both running AWD cars).
There's a reason 1/4 mile tracks are closed in the rain.
My Z06 is completely useless in the rain - its like a regular car on ice. A WRX would blow the doors off my Z06 in the rain. Does that mean its a faster car?
