G35c ON FIRE!!!

Umm..not exactly but I have 2800 miles on it now and sometimes I gets a faint burning smell that last 2 or 3 minutes, then mysteriously...disappears.

At first I thought it may be my paranoia because I am insanely over protective of my G but last night my girl smelled it too. So this confirms I am not paranoid.

I dont do drugs but sometimes I think the smell gets me a lil high or more hyper or more paranoid.

What could it be????

Well I don't know how old/new your G is, but if it's fairly new (couple of weeks old), the smell you are smelling could be the protective coat they spray underneath the body and the engine, to protect corrosion if I'm not mistaken. If that's what you are smelling, then don't worry about it - it'll soon be all burned out and go away.

I had that smell, but not when it was brand new. It started happening around 3000 miles, and went away after summer time. In my case I think it had to do with changing the exhaust.

You might have a plastic bag stuck to the exhaust or cat. This has happened to me on a previous car. When the car warms up so will the plastic which causes an odor.

Re: G35c ON FIRE!!!

Whats the weather like when you are driving? Some people have been smelling a "burning rubber" smell. This is the traction control system and I think the cluch. When it takes power away some people are getting this smell. From other posts when asking dealers they are saying this is normal, but not good for your car. Ease off the power a little, next time see if it happens about when your slip light comes on. Hope this helps!

I got mine with 7 miles on it, 4+ of those were from my test drive. I never noticed any smell.

Yeah mine didn't smell either and I got it with 9 miles. Have you ever driven in the snow or really cold with the stock 18's? Thats when I think it does it!

Re: G35c ON FIRE!!!

does it smell like burning rubber?
Do you have snow tires on?
Is the weather outside cold? in the 30's or below?

If yes to all of these, then it is a common problem being discussed in another thread here in the Coupe forum

Re: G35c ON FIRE!!!

I have had the car about 3 months. It has 2800 miles on it. It has the Michelin Sports 18-inch pkg. It has been cold here in NYC.
