Should I take it back?

Hey all-

I was washing my car for the first time yesterday (it's a week old), and I noticed a fairly deep 1/2 in scratch on the roof of the car near the rear pillar. There is another scratch perpendicular to this one and it almost looks as if something square was used to create the marks. They aren't terribly noticeable, but they are enough to bug me. Should I take the car to the dealer and have them fix it? I don't want to be the "annoying" customer, but I've already spend hundreds on cleaning products because I'm so **** about my car...the scratch is a bit heartbreaking...

Just for future reference, when you pick up the car you should go over it with a fine-tooth comb. After a week, the dealer may be less prone to fix it gratis.

Re: Should I take it back?

Geo-

I certainly understand this which is why I will contact them first thing on Monday. I'm sure you understand (as should the dealer), that when you pick up a new car, your mind is MUSH! My heart was racing and my hands were shaking. I inspected the car as best as I could at the time, but it is very likely that you'll miss something.

Unfortunately, I also picked my car up in the evening, so lighting wasn't the best. This may have been the reason that I initially missed the scratch. I've also found two big "scrapes" underneath the car...and there is plastic material hanging down. I'll also bring this up when I'm there.

Do you think I'll be faced with a hassle?

I think it depends largly on the "cool" factor of your dealer. My sales guy has always been incredibly willing to give, so they've taken my crap on stuff like this, but I hear from a lot of people that they get hassles over anything. The plastic material of which you speak is most likely just the adhesive plastic stripping on the sides and front. Protects it for shipping, essentially, but most people never find it and leave it on. You can take it off if you want...

Geo-

Thanks for the advice. My dealer has been great so far, so I'll hope for the best. At the very least...they should be able to put up with a little of my "**** retentiveness" after the run-around I went through with the delivery process! I'll be sure to reply back and let everyone know of my experience with this (my dealership is Harte Infiniti in Hartford, CT).

Thanks!

For sure take it back bro. It bugs you and it would me too. As to who's responsible now will depend on how friendly your dealer is. Stritctly speaking you, or a friend accompanying you, should have picked up on that when you got the car but then so should the dealer, so you've got 'ammo' in your favour too. I'm sure once he sees your ride and hears your issue, he won't mind repairing it. After all it's a claim he can make to Nissan for transportation damages, and it's a way to keep a customer happy and loyal.
I'm sure they realize a customer isn't thinking too clearly when they take possession.
Go see him with a smile, chances are he'll want to help you.

Re: Should I take it back?

Well the one thing I have to say for the dealership is that they seem to be obsessed with customer satisfaction. A representative from the dealership has already called me on three seperate occasions to ask tell me about the "Infiniti Customer Reponse" card that I should be getting in the mail. They've indicated that if there are any problems, to contact the dealer to have them resolved before indicating a less than perfect score on the card. I'd like to think that this is due to their genuine desire to keep their customers happy.

Nice... if you haven't filled out the card yet, you have leverage You could also say "My friend was so impressed with my G, he's considering one. I'll tell him to come see you. Oh, and there's this scratch..." and they'll bend over backwards in a heartbeat.
