man tran problems?

Hi all. I've been fairly new on this website. I enjoy reading all your posts and valuable informations. I was wondering if anyone has the same problem as my trans. I have a 03 coupe 6MT. This winter in K.C. got pretty damn cold. And when I start the car in the morning, every time I shift gears from 2nd to 3rd, the trans grinds and notches as if I misshifted. The problem seems to go away after the car warms up. Then it does the same thing again the next morning. Any advices? I'm taking it in today to have it looked at. Thanks.

Re: man tran problems?

Hey leadfoot,
I know there were several people experiencing grinding problems on their 6MT's but I don't believe they were all cold related and then went away.
There were several people that had their trannys replaced.
Doing a quick search I found a couple threads you might be interested in:

Just do a search on "grind" or "manual" or similar and you will find a lot of useful info.

Re: man tran problems?

Thanks a lot BeerViper... I just got a call from the dealer, and they straight out told me that it needs a new transmission. So, I guess I have nothing to worry about, except I got to drive the sedan they gave me for the time being. Once again, I appreciate all your help. I see you also have the eye candy color for your coupe! Nice!

Re: man tran problems?

Glad to help.

Good luck with the new tranny! Sounds like you have a pretty cool service department not to throw out a bunch of bullsh!t about the trans.

Laser Red is the only way to go in my book

Re: man tran problems?

I had the tranny problem. It would grind in second only in the cold. Then after it warmed up, it would be fine. Got the tranny replaced after 5500 miles and its been fine for about 8000 miles now. Hopefully this tranny holds up.
