Gas Indicator incorrect??

Hi all,

Something weird yesterday happened. So ma gas indicator was indicating that I had a half tank left.

I parked the car. 2 hours after, I start the car then the gas indicator showed 1/4 left??? That freaked me out!

While I was driving it started sloooooowly to go up back to the half tank.....

Is something wrong?

Also, when i put a full tank, the indicator won't go to Full, it's like 2 marks under the F.

did you park on an incline?? It's weird that it wont register as full...might need a new sending unit.

Unfortunately that is a commom problem with the G Coupe.

wait until your gas gauge is stable, then go to a gas station and fill it up. Check the amount/Gallons of gas it takes. That should give you a better idea if the gauge is misreading.

Also, sometimes the problem lies with the fuel filler neck. There is a pressure valve that shuts off prematurely, and does not allow the tank to fill completely.

My gauge seldom reads over the full hash mark. The only way I can get it to go over is to top of my tank manually.....

Good luck

I seldom gauge my tank using the gas needle...keep a mental note of how many miles to the tank you normally get. Can't go wrong there.

My gauge is really off too. It seems to fill up correctly, at least according to the amount of miles I go typically. But it will drop down to half sometimes after only going 100 miles. I usually expect about 270-300 miles before my light goes off and I end up filling up with about 14-15 gallons. My avg mpg is 18.8. So I give up on the fuel gauge though I might get some BG44K fuel injector cleaner and see if that will help. The concentrated techron didn't seem to help any.

The G coupe has a 20 gal. gas tank.

To average you mileage....fill your tank completely. Then do your normal driving/routine. When you gauge gets close to E, Then fill your tank again. divide the amount of gals into the miles....that will give you a rough estimate of you actual MPG.

When I did highway mileage mostly, I usually averaged 21-23 MPG. Around town driving normally, I would average around 19 MPG.

Yeah, I have the same problem. It usually only happens in colder weather though!?!?! I know that I can safely get 275-320 miles per tank. In the winter, when the gauge is acting up, I will fill up at 275 or so. That gives me plenty of cushion.

I had the same problem too. Empty at start, 5 miles later, 1/4 of a tank full. Went to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong.

I JUST got my car back fromt he stealership for a fuel issue. My guage would read dead empty then after a minute or two of driving, it would go to 1/4 tank. Then it would drop again. When the light would turn on I would pump 13-14 gallons in. I drove about 50-60 miles with the light on becuase I knew it wasnt reading correctly. They put a new guage in and said that it should fix the problem. Who knows... I guess I will find out this weekend since I dont really drive the car during the week.

Yeah that's been a problem for this car. A few have gone to the dealer to get that fixed, but on avg i get around 330 miles to the tank. So just keep it in mind when you are getting up there that you will have to fill up soon.

Got mine fixed under warranty with no questions asked. All i told him was it wouldn't read full on a full tank. The guy said it needed a new fuel sending unit.

*Off topic* When i picked my car up, the guy told me that 35 cars were vandalized last night and my car was the only one that stayed in the shop. I couldn't have been happier to hear that.
