worth it?
worth it?
Hi,
So I have been considering buying a used g35 6mt. I always loved the way the car looked and thought it was a great mix of sport and lux. I have become really disappointed though with further research seeing all the complaints and issues with the car. I have read pages and pages of complaints. And read many more about how people would never buy another one. So is it worth it? I thought I could get into a fun sports car that was grown up enough and last me 100k miles. I dont want to spend 1200 bucks a year on tires. Or be in and out of the dealer replacing engines and trani's. Being used I wouldn't have the full warranty more than likely too so when the stereo or windows and rattles act up it would be out of pocket. Who is happy with their car? I am really shying away from the g now.
Help me out here

I love it, wouldn't have gotten anything else, all the complaint that i have or have read are sooooo minor, any car you get, you will have complaints about, its a given.....i say get one....the cars outcome will be exactly like you treat it, treat it like **** and it will take a ****, baby it and im sure you wont have and major problems if any, and if your worried about tires, you def shouldne be looking at the car lol, but 1200 is a little high, you dont need the top of the line tires
Your first mistake is going to a forum to decide about buying the car. Usually, all you hear about are problems. Who bothers to create a thread saying, "I love my car..." People only write when they have a problem. Get the car.
Put me on the very happy side. I'd guess that for every complaint you read, there are 10 others who aren't complaining. I've had an '05 5AT since new, and the only problem I've encountered was that the CD player had to be replaced twice under warranty. I have 19,000 miles on the original 19" tires, and they will have to be replaced in the next couple of months. I have no complaints about the gas mileage (got 26-27 on the last road trip), no unusual oil consumption, no window or sunroof ratlles, etc. The dealer has been good about service and appointments. The G is our second Infiniti and I would certainly consider another one.

try going to a BMW forum, Lexus forum, or even a Ferrari forum, i am sure u will hear jsut as many complaints as you hear in G35 forums.....thats the nature of used cars .. or you can choose the other way and buy a 2008 brand spanking new Kia with 6years/10,000km warranty or something and you wont have to worry about any major/minor problems until 2014..

its a great car but the problems it gets arent. problems ive had with my coupe include: creeking suspension(repeatedly taken to dealerships to have fixed), trunk not opening as well as broken lifting rods in the trunk, cracking leather seats, many brake issues(in total costing 2000 to fix), as well as replacing tires a few times which costs alot. most of the problems i could live with, but if you want your car to be perfect all the time, be prepared to spend some cash or look somewhere else.
Every car has its problems. The ones I've had so far are very minor and would not dissaude me from buying a G35. You have to decide for yourself whether the G35's specific issues are worth putting up with. Other cars have problems, just different ones.
The only non wear-and-tear problem I've had was creaking suspension which was fixed quickly by taking it to the dealer and them lubing it, which took less than 30 min. Oh yeah, and a few interior rattles once in a while.
Aside from Toyotas, which generally are unparalleled in initial and long term quality (my wife's 6 yr-old Toyota has been rock solid since day one except for one minor squeak from the steering column in the cold), there aren't too many cars on the road that won't at least have some minor issues. Oil consumption and trannies certainly can't be considered minor, and you should definitely check out the engine history on any used one you buy (do compression and leak down tests if you can), but other problems like squeaks and rattles are going to happen on many cars. I've had a couple of minor ones on my 04 (squeaky sunroof, rocking driver seat, rattle-y rearview mirror) but all were fixed by the dealer with no questions asked, and everything else has been great.
Are these cars expensive to maintain and drive? Sure - sports car brakes and tires usually are. But that's the price you pay to play - BMW's, Mercedes, Porsches are no different. Overall I wouldn't say they're any more expensive to maintain than other import luxury/sports cars.
All in all, I would definitely purchase this car again.
