Would it be possible..to make windows go to a tint whenever you want it to?..for example..mercedes..they have a blue tint to them sometimes and i think its awesome how windows can go tint by themselves..i was wondering if its possible in teh near future that windows could go as dark as you want them too..but at the same time be able to "take them off" or get rid of the tint if you need to pass inspection...
and im not talking about tint film..and to rip it off whenver you want it and put it back on..im saying some top of the line windows that go to a shade automatically...
does anyone understand what im talking about??

i actually thought of this when i saw a recent commercial for some perscription glasses that are clear indoors/darker areas, and turn shaded when outdoors/very bright environment....

Its been done already...Technology is still new so only the wealthy can play with it...You can make a glass window pitch black or let some light in or crystal clear. I think it cost in the thousands right now...So, until it catches on the rich are the only ones that can play with it...I thought about this idea 7 years ago but didn't have the tech or know how to do it...or the funds either...I assumed someone thought of it too already...Which they did...Oh well, I thought it would be cool to have it on your windows and have it turn black when you turn off the car so no one can look inside your car...Once you are driving it will adjust to a lighter setting...

they have building windows like this, basically a lcd panel (like in a calculator, not a monitor) with adjustable contrast. not much thicker than typical double glazed glass, the liquid crystal film could probably be applied like tint film with some sort of sealer.
wouldn't be terribly expensive if mass-produced, but needs the demand.
heck, if you wanted you could have a colour lcd film, and a display driver, have a moving/animated/adjustable tint.

An example of this was also previewed on the Infiniti EX35 concept car for its roof:

The technology is already out. It's the same concept as "self-tinting" sunglasses where "sunlight" is used to excite the molecules in the lens causing it the "tint" and vice-versa when you're indoors..
The same can be done with windows and electrical current.

"Electric window tinting could take windows or a moonroof from clear to tinted to even opaque with the push of a button. Maybach already offers a panoramic glass roof that can be switched from opaque to transparent, but not many of us can afford a Maybach."
