The Inifinti shop manual says to "disconnect pawls and remove ventilator grilles" but thats not very helpful if you don't explain what or where these pawls are.

I hesitate to explain why I need to do this because no one will believe me, but apparently the first owner spilled some kind of bird seed in the vents and it flies out all over the passenger seat when the blower comes on full speed.

Thanks as usual.

Seriously, bunches of little round seeds....they fly out of both vents on the passenger side and if I have the music off I can even hear it rolling when I turn corners. Thought I'd better pop a vent out and stick a shop vac rigged to an old hose down there and vacuum it out before a mouse moves in or something. Don't think the heater gets hot enough to affect the seeds but don't want to find out either.

Don't know about the vents by the doors on either side, but here's a DIY of how to remove the radio which involves of removing the center vents.

That looks AWFUL, but it does seem to hint that the Infiniti guys might just be using "pawl" in place of "tab". The shop manual specifies that the RH center vent may be the only one that is not secured with screws, so hopefully I'll just be able to carefully pop it out with a flathead screwdriver like the DIY shows.

Thanks for convincing me I never want to attempt a double-DIN conversion (whatever that is for) either

Check your in cabin air filter also. The seeds might have come in through there from parking under a tree or something.
