For those with aftermarket shift *****

I just installed the Nismo GT titanium shift **** and was wondering how some of you made it so the shift boot attaches to the shift **** so you don't see the metal shaft. I tried using zip ties, but it ends up sagging after a few shifts.

Re: For those with aftermarket shift *****

Originally I removed the threaded collar from inside the boot and folded the excess inside. I used a thick rubber band to hold it to the shaft below the new shift ****.

Adventually I got a new boot and threaded it to the Momo **** I have. I think most aftermarket universal boots have some sort of elastic in the top opening.

Hope that helps . . . .

Re: For those with aftermarket shift *****

yeah, picture worth a thousand words.may be someone look at it and come up with an idea.without knowing what the hell i'm talking about,i say remove the boot from console turn leather inside out.clamp boot onto shaft using hose clamp (avaiable at pepboy, autozone ect.) fold the boot back over the clamp and reattach on the console...make sense ???

Re: For those with aftermarket shift *****

Most people use some tape on the shift rod. Just slightly larger in diameter than the plastic piece in the shift boot to keep it from slipping down. You have to pop out the whole plastic section to get access to the area under the shift boot. Let me know if you have a question, I'll try to go into further detail.

Re: For those with aftermarket shift *****

I have the NISMO GT Ti shift ****. To fix the problem i did pretty much what TINMAN said.

I measured where the height of the boot would have to be to cover the space needed up to the shift ****... then took of the **** and plastic cover etc... flipped the boot inside out on the metal rod.... used a type of twisty tie except it's like a metal clamp you mold on when you apply pressure, then let the boot flip inside out again falling into it's normal position...then install everythign back on top of it again

i had to do this because the Rouge Short Shifter actually makes the height of the **** a little higher ...making things a little more unsightly and sloppy.

Re: For those with aftermarket shift *****

I've found a easy fix for this. I used a nylon spacer that I bought from home depot for .50 cents, put the spacer under the plastic piece that holds the top of the shift boot. The spacer pushed the boot up to the shift **** perfectly. I had to dremel the inside of the spacer to make the spacer fit over the shifter.

Spacer
3/8 long
3/4 OD x 5"
Had to dremel the inside of the spacer to fit over shifter.

Re: For those with aftermarket shift *****

z, how do you like the Momo F16-evo shifter? Is it shorter or taller than the stock shifter? I am stuck between buying the momo F16-evo or a nismo shifter. Thanks.

Re: For those with aftermarket shift *****

Hey Paul1082,

I have had it on for 9+ months now. It is a little taller than stock but nothing that seem too tall. I really like it and the titanium color matches perfect. For some it is a love or hate it look. I really like it.

A suggestion for the set screws if you go with the Momo, use a little bit of blue locktite on the 3 set screws. The transmission has a lot of vibration and it can vibrate the set screws loose a little bit.

I also got the threaded boot to match. It helps to have a clean look to it. You have to cut it down to fit right in the housing but worth it.

Good luck !!
