G vs WRX STI- GOT BEAT
We launch and in no time I'm a carlength ahead (rear bumper to front bumper). Stayed that distance through 1st gear.
Into 2nd gear I'm ahead by @ 1.5 carlengths (I can see his headlights through my sideview). At the end of 2nd I ccut it off. He does a fly-by then waves out his window. I see him at the next light he looks out his window and waves then motions with his lips "bye-bye" I look over and laugh at him histerically shaking my head in disbelief. When the light changes he completely stalls out... That was even more histerical.

No no... i took out an STi driver also.
his shifting was good, i'm pretty sure he shifted fast too. when we both talked...we were in 2nd the whole time for all 3 blocks.

Re: G vs WRX STI- GOT BEAT
Are you sure it was an STI and not a plain WRX?
Even a plain WRX will give you a good run....
An STI would hand us our nice a$$ on a nice big silver platter...

Re: G vs WRX STI- GOT BEAT
The STi should easily beat a coupe right off the line, that's where they're faster than ......
From a roll I could see it being somewhat close as the STi traps in the low 100's (i've seen around 103?) but off the line they're very quick. Now if it's a regular WRX, they're about a second slower to 60 and 10 mph slower in the 1/4.

Re: G vs WRX STI- GOT BEAT
He had all the looks of an STI. I don't think that he could drive very well. I was expecting him to get me. But to my surprse, he didn't. When we took off we were pointed down a hill which helped to even my odds. He didn't drop his clutch from very high though as I heared his takeoff "varoom-roooooom" as oposed to the way it sounds when droping the clutch from high RPMS "varooooooooooooom-rooooooooooooom" <- yeah I know, I'm being corny"
On my launch, I chirped the tires even though we were going down hill. It was the best launch I've experienced in my G.

wtf are you guys talking about walking a STI! OMG a stil will walk on you guys in their sleep. I really really really really really bad driver should still beat you or at least hung with you. Anyhow, perhaps it was a wrx stil a sti badge with a bigger scoop than you beat. Sorry i find it hard to believe.
Re: G vs WRX STI- GOT BEAT
Launching an AWD car is not that easy. Because there is such a tremendous amount of grip from a stop, it is easy to bog the engine. I believe Car and Driver indicated that the street start time they achieved with the STI was substantially slower than the 0-60 time. I quote from their article "New Wave Sling Shots":
"One word of warning to those who might try to duplicate our acceleration numbers: Don't. These are not drag racers, and what a stopwatch considers a good start a dealership service department considers a lucrative one. But there it is: a sprint of 4.6 to 60 mph, 0.4-second faster than the Mitsubishi and a figure that's going to be hard to achieve in any car near the STi's $31,520 base price. Our 5-to-60-mph street-start sprint of 5.8 is a more realistic, less-abusive gauge of real-world acceleration. It's all accompanied by a tough-sounding midrange trill of an exhaust note."
Consequently, the driver of the STI was either a bad driver, or isn't blessed with unlimited funds to replace his clutch constantly. I say, good real workd kill.

Fluid,
With more grip from an AWD his advantage is lessened to a certain degree as there is less margin for error for me than for him. When pointed down hill, my chance to blow a launch is lessened by a significant amount more than in an AWD. Thus, my odds are better as a result.
Xenon,
No one is saying that the G was supposed to win, only that the G won. And if is walks like a duck and talks like a duck then guess what...

Very nice run. But if its on open flat road...they would just dusted us like we dusted a 330ci. Yea I've been killing the 330s on daily bases...lol. They just wanna play...what can u say...

Re: G vs WRX STI- GOT BEAT
STI's are ugly, Im glad you lucked out and caught a sh!tty driver and beat him..however THEM THINGS HAUL A$$!!! Even though this was stated previously in this post in other words and on this forum in diff. areas I figured I'd say it again....Those things will give the 95-99 turbo porsches a run for there money..and after about $1000 in engine perf. mods..it'll walk a porsche turbo....all while being ugly as sin!

Re: G vs WRX STI- GOT BEAT
nice run, but if it was an Sti, it had a terrible driver.
with a good driver:
0-60 in under 5s
1/4 mi. in the 12s
I almost bought one, but thanks to Subaru I spent more money on my G.
