5AT Mods- power gains?
5AT Mods- power gains?
I know that both transmissions perform very closely to one another, but can the gains be felt much more with BPU mods on a 6MT? Is this an old myth that an automatic, outside an F1 type, is not as worthwhile to modify?
This would be fine with me, as the mod bug is killing me on my VR4, so less mods to a 5AT would suit me fine. I am interested in basic usage, commuting, etc.

You want a simple mod on your car? Get a z tube $75 at performance nissan and an intake get pop charger or stillen. Pop charger is cheaper and it will do the same thing as the stillen. The stillen $240-260 (depending on where you buy it)on the other hand has a better stock look to it. If you don't know how it looks like you can't even tell it's there. Very minimal in gain, but you will be able to tell the difference in HP.

Re: 5AT Mods- power gains?
Both the 5AT and 6MT cars see nice gains from mods. They should both also gain pretty much the same power from any given mod (other than maybe an ECU or flywheel mod, which isn't possible on the 5AT). The 6mt should put down a few more hp to the rear wheels due to less drivetrain losses, but that should be apparent all the time, modded or not.

Re: 5AT Mods- power gains?
Glad to hear this! I drove a 5AT 350Touring for 900 miles in Cali; I def. felt the power to the rear wheels. I loved the stock sounds as well, though a bb triflo is sweet, I wouldn't mess with that Ferrari 360ish drone. Have any of you heard a testpipe on either a 5AT or a 6MT? I wonder if it improves on that sweet stock sound, maybe even making it louder. Not throatier like a DP tho...
Re: 5AT Mods- power gains?
My mods are more designed for weight loss and handling - where I think the coupe needs help more than power. This is a pretty perky vehicle - but I am considering a custom intake from my performance tuner's shop and I will be getting a GReddy exhaust upgrade.
There are two exhaust choices for the coupe from GReddy - the EVO or the SP2 models. I am picking the SP2 exhaust - primarily because it is a bit more like the stock in sound and looks. It should be on my 5AT soon - and in keeping with my philosophy for modding this car it is primarily for the weight loss (about 10 pounds over stock exhaust) and secondarily for peformance.
I am definitely not doing it for the sound - the sound of the stock exhaust is fantastic as it is - I hope the GReddy will be just as good. However, if it's better that may be bad, I may want to run alongside the car and listen instead of driving it!
