General Coupe questions
General Coupe questions
Well, Im new here, I've had my coupe for give or take 2 weeks now. Its an 03, black/black 6MT premium, 18's and brembos. Didn't get the navigation package with it, but I will be going back to get the spoiler put on when I get the gialla (i believe?) front grill that I ordered in.
Ofcourse, I have a few questions for the site "experts" here as this is my first Japanese car, the performance companies are a little bit of a mystery to me.
Ive heard everyone going on about the JWT pop charger/z-tube intake combo....does the really work better than all the standard CAI's available right now?
Ive seen quite a few people on here with the 2003.5 in their signature, I was wondering what the differences between a 2003, 2003.5 and 2004 coupe would be.
And finally, a little more technical question, this prolly has been discussed alot, or maybe im the first one with the thought....can the G35x AWD system be adapted to the coupe? Or maybe will they ever release an AWD model of the coupe?
Help on any of these would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Re: General Coupe questions
First off, welcome to the club.
The JWT/Z-tube combo is as good as a CAI. There has been a large debate over which is better and they're within a couple of hp of each other. Many people prefer the z-tube due to the chance of hydrolocking. Others chose a cai with a by-pass to prevent this.
As far as the G35X goes, it hasn't been done yet but I've heard of some people working on it.

Re: General Coupe questions
In mid 2003, Infiniti changed the center console to include an armrest. This is the only mid-year change. This console can be retrofitted on an early 2003 for about $300. The only differences between the 2003.5 and 2004 are 2004's get a low tire pressure system and Twilight Blue is added as a color. The low tire pressure system consists of sensors attached to the inner valve stems on in the wheels and a light on the dash that comes on when a pressure is read low. The color Carribean Blue is discontinued mid-2004 due to low demand.
As far as the G35X AWD goes, it probably could be retrofitted to the coupe but at a great cost. It will require a different transmission, crossmember, axles, mid-shaft mounts, spindles, hubs and front sway bar. These parts are only available as special order parts through Infiniti, so don't be surprised if the parts alone run over $10K. Even driving the car in heavy rain, I've never had a problem with traction. I could see a possible use for it in a climate with heavy snow, but for the rest of us it is only adding extra weight and making the car slower. The twin-turbo 3.2L AWD GT-R will be out in a couple of years where the extra traction will complement the extra power, but there are no plans to build an AWD NA coupe.

Re: General Coupe questions
Thanks for all the help, one more question now. By the 2003.5 armrest do you mean the small attempt at an arm rest in between the seats that i leave open to hold a water bottle all the time? If so I guess I have a 2003.5 lol. Also, the reason I was curious as to the AWD was because I am very interested in the GReddy kit, and am heavily debating purchasing it within the next week or so, however, Id like to wait till summer, which would be a better time due to my bills.

Re: General Coupe questions
Well...yes...and no. There are 6 cup holders and 2 bottle holders in the coupe. There are 2 cup holder in the slot behind the shifter, 2 under the armrest and 2 between the rear seats. In each door, there is a bottle holder that even holds 24 oz bottles. If you are leaving your lid open to put bottles in there, you should use your doors holders instead.
Unless you are looking at major engine work, going Greddy is going to make you that traction limited. You can only run 7 psi on the stock internals and stock compression.

Re: General Coupe questions
the other difference in the car, was the sedan. the 03 had a hand grip to open trunk and infiniti letters were there. at .5 they got rid of that and spread out the letters.
the sedan for 04 got lsd on some models
04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

Also, in 2004 they supposedly improved the stereo to make the CD changer faster. It's still pretty slow, though.
