Just bought Borla Exhaust

I just placed an order for the Borla exhaust. I called the place I got it and spoke with them for advice. I was debating between the injen and the fujitsubo. He told me that the borla sounds like the best choice for me. He said its a little deeper than stock, it's a true dual, and it's not as annoyingly loud as the other 2 are. I can't wait to get it on! The only other thing he recommended that I get with it are a set of Helix test pipes. He said they add 10 HP in addition to the exhaust, and they are only like $170. What do you guys think? Should I add that on there?

Re: Just bought Borla Exhaust

I've spoken with several people, including the place I bought from. I'm confident that I'm going to like the Borla. I've heard a lot of happy people on here, and the place that I got it from, who had several other systems to offer, told me that for what I'm looking for, the Borla would be perfect.

Re: Just bought Borla Exhaust

I know I was the trouble maker that started the whole thread on the Borla being a piece of @#$%^&. Here is an update after a month of living with my purchase. The sound got a WHOLE lot better. I don't know why but it just did. I've heard a lot of people say it would but didn't believe them at first but now I can hear it for myself. I didn't used to have the little gurgle/burble sound after I let off the gass but I have it now for some reason :-). I still think the stock exhaust had a more unique sound. As for the gains I'm still out to jury on that. I know the car feels better over 3800 rpm!!! I'm gonna stick with the Borla for now. There are plenty of other things that I want to do yet. A different exhaust is on the list but near the bottom for now. I'll wait till the prices on the titanium Amuse R1 comes down that's what I really wanted but didn't want to drop 2Gs on the rear portion alone. On a 1-10 satisfaction scale (10 being the best). I am gonna give the Borla a 7.5.

Re: Just bought Borla Exhaust

I felt a loss of low end grunt and the gurgle/burble sound after I installed by Borla catback. But like you, the sound has come back and I'm starting to get that low end back too. The only item that bugs me is that the engine will not start right up after a hot shutdown. I have to turn the ignition off and then on again. I hear a little pop, then the engine starts. The occurred after the Borla install. There is a resonance at about 2K but all in all the exhaust is much quieter than stock.

Re: Just bought Borla Exhaust

the sound gets better because even exhaust has their "break in" periods. After 200 miles or so the exhaust will be fully broken in. At first I didn't really like the sound of Borla but after hundreds miles on borla, the sound got better.

Re: Just bought Borla Exhaust

You're totally right. It is a lot quieter than the stock. I wanted something just as loud if not a weee bit louder. I used to roll down the windows to hear that sweet sound but now when I roll down the window I can barley hear anything. Its funny though. My wife was driving my car and I was driving her's following the G and I could hear the Borla just fine and it did sound nice. Just still leaves something to be desired. Can't put my finger on it.

Re: Just bought Borla Exhaust

I don't think it's quieter than stock, but it's only a little louder than stock, not obnoxious loud like you expect from an aftermarket exhaust.

I couldn't feel a loss or gain of anything after installing it, but my 1/4 mile times definitely improved. One other weird side effect: the loud clicks and snaps that I'd hear under the car when I shut it down after a hard run have completely disappeared. I guess the metal pieces of the stock exhaust don't all expand or contract in different temperatures at the same rates, causing some cool down stress.
