NOOB here - 1st question

hello all - I'm brand new to the G35 coupe as well as this forum and am looking to learn a great deal from you all!

I just bought a 2003 coupe in mint condition with 26k miles from an infinity dealer. I paid 23k and that included a new 5 year, 70K, 0 deductible warranty which I hope is an OK deal (auto, sport tranny, all options).

Anyway - I do have 1 question. The vertical lenses inside the headlights have yellowed a bit. Accodingly, I decided to replace them. The car has (I'm told) Xenon bulbs but a non-projection xenon setup. I began looking on ebay to buy 2 headlights in good shape and was wondering if these projection lenses are what I should be looking at instead of what I have. If so, would I have to buy the ballast as well or do the non-projection xenon systems come with the ballast and the only difference is the projection lense? Is it worth the change? (and do the 06-07 setups fit the 03's?)

Looking forward to everyones suggestion -

Hello, welcome to the forum.
First off, your 03 has Xenon (HID) low beams...your high/fog light is a standard H4 bulb. Your system is Reflector HID. Maybe they bulbs in the clearance strips are yellowed.....may just need to replace the bulbs to Hyper white bulbs or LED's

Most of The lights assemblies on ebay are usually the recalled ones from 06. They are ok, but they should have been scrapped. They are Projectors...and they no longer have the clearance strip on the side like yours.

The light assemblies are plug and play, all you have to do is swap your ballast to the new light assembly.

The 03 bulbs are D2R, the projection assemblies use D2S, and are bi-xenon, meaning they are both low/high bulb, and the fog is now a H1 bulb I believe with a small city light in the housing in place of the clearance strip.....so you may need to buy bulbs depending on the sale.

Good luck

Very interesting thread. Sounds like the clearance strips are quite popular. Has anyone on here done this swap and is it as easy as some of these threads make it out to be (pull bumper forward and unscrew the 4 housing screws....)?

Before replacing your headlights completely consider that the yellowing you are seeing could actually just be the outside of the lens and not something inside. I just reconditioned my lenses with a 3-step kit purchased for about $25 and saw a marked improvement. If you're interested I can find the info of where I purchased the kit - the name escapes me right now.
