G35 in winter :(
I just bought a set of 17" winter wheels/ tires. I have the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tires. Makes a world of a difference, no problem getting around. I live in MA and we got more snow this winter so far than all of last winter. I was contemplating getting a winter beater, but with snows, its not even necessary. I commute 25 miles each way to work too. Just drive smart and leave the VDC ON!!! Unless you're really stuck, then turn it off and just gas it.
Yes, winter tires are a must. You need rears to move and you need fronts to stop and stay in control. I think it's safe to say that for most of us car enthusiasts that got this car because of the RWD, this car is as much if not more fun driving in the snow. I love it. It takes skills and maturity to be safe out there, but sometimes I really do feel like a kid behind the wheel.
And you will feel a sense of achievement when you start controling all those back end slides.

yeah i have no issue whatsoever with my g35 coupe in the winter with some 17s and dunlop graspic snow tires. It has to be your tires I don't even have sand bags in my trunk either and new england just got a bunch of storms. Ive drivin in heavy unplowed streets and few times during the storms the plow doesnt seem to get to my girlfriends street until alot later and there are a good 8+ inches at times on her road.
yay! another montrealer! i had no problem with all the snow we got, and my rear tires are half worn down.
if this is your first rwd car, it'll take a while to get used to it, go to an empty parking lot, turn off the vdc and practice controlling the car.
i find the trick is controlling the throttle, the vdc does an okay job, but makes it impossible to punch through snow banks and such, don't be afraid of sliding a bit, just make sure you can control it, and this car is really easy to control.
this is probably the best car i've driven in winter so far. (have toyo garrit HT snows on).
