G35 in winter :(

God damn.... it's a nightmare!!!

Is it just me or damn, the car is really a nightmare to drive in winter!

I put some weight in the trunk (160lb of sand bags), it does help alot, but still today I was on the highway and felt the car slip for a sec ... scared the **** out of me.

What about your experience? Do you guys have any tips for winter?

I got toyo garit KX winter tires.

I have no issue with my coupe with snows on it. I do outside sales so I drive a lot! I was just saying today how well it moves in the snow for RWD. You cant drive this car in the snow without snow tires! So I guess what I am saying is get snows and you will be happy! Oh I live in NH and we are getting pounded with snow this year.

They look like good tires, do you have much experience in snow driving?

Slow down, take it easy on the turns and if necessary, start out in second gear.

I think it's great

I have 18" wheels with studless winter tires (V&H) and I have lots of fun, it handls well to. I put 2 bags of salt (80lb) in the trunk, but...the G coupe's weight ratio is 54:46, which is not too bad, compared to say an suv. See this:

https://g35driver.com/forums/media-share-g35-coupe-v35/188382-my-winter-setup.html

I have also driven the morning after a snow storm (mostly snow plowed) and when it was coming down with 1" on the road, and it does well. In my opinion, almost as good as a fwd sports car.

Driving in the snow is completely safe in the G... I have a coupe and I just got Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tires mounted on my stock 18 inch wheels and I have no problem, no need for weight in the trunk. I'm from Massachusetts and i've driven in 10 inches of snow and today about 3 inches of snow no problem. Just take it easy and you'll be fine.

I have blizzaks on mine currently. It handles excellent and brakes great except on packed snow/ice. I'd still say I was 75% satisfied due to the fact that acceleration is still not as good as I'd hope, though it will claw its way up at what seems to be anything the road as to offer. A G35x (I had for a loaner) was amazing in snow even with all-seasons.

I got an 03 coupe. Yeah I guess i gotta drive slow .. but slow on the highway .... I was driving like 80km/h on the highway when i felt the car slipping .. got scare there .... I live in montreal .. we got hit by 2 storms in a week that pounded us with 40cm of snow each storm ... and winter hasn't started yet ... damn ... I guess its a matter of learning how to drive the car in winter .... hope I won't get into any accident...

Well obviously don't go fast on the highway if you fell like you're slipping lol..
Just don't try to go the speed you usually do, when its snowing out I stay in the far right or middle lane on the highway people usually drive slower there and it feels fine to me...

With snow tires its just fine at speeds under 45 basically in the city. But when you get out to the highway, I always felt like the car's backend was slipping out. That's why this season I bought a GMC Jimmy...I feel so much better driving that. Plus now I get to say. "Wanna see my Jimmy"

no matter how good of tires you think you have, throwing a couple 70 pound bags of sand in the trunk will only help.

I have Dunlop M3 Snows and it works well for the most part. The car is a beast of a RWD so you really need to just take it easy on the throttle. I still need to buy some sand bags to put in the trunk.

Doesn't leaving 70+ lbs of weight in the trunk during the winter season will wear out your shocks? Also, would I need to get all 4 tires with winter tires or can I just replace the 2 back tires?

I think you will be ok to have the sandbags in the back for the winter season.

And NO, you DEFINITELY should install snow tires on all four rims. You need traction up front as well ya know.
