Putting some thought into a new car...

Hi all,

I am seriously looking at buying a used car in the next week or two, and have pretty much narrowed down the options to a G35.

I am currently trying to decide between buying an '04 or an '05. I know that the power of the engine changed between those two years, but I have also read that they changed some of the interior stuff between the two model years. I was wondering if anyone could go into a bit more detail of the difference between the model years, and perhaps suggest what route I should be looking at.

In both cases, I am hoping to find around 30-50k km (~50-80k miles).

Thanks in advance for the help!

What are you looking to get a Sedan or a coupe?

I would say he is looking for a Coupe since it is in the Coupe section.

I would definitely get the 05' over the 04'..I actually made that decision myself.
The 05' interior looks much better, especially if you're getting auto (leather shift boot)

I'm looking at the manual actually. Can you put a finger on exactly what looks better in the '05?

I have actually been leaning towards the '05, as from what I've read, it seems like the brake wear on Brembos in the '04 is scary...

Brembos should be a factor. The '04 do not have sport springs and shocks with the sport package. Get the '05

get the 2005 model. it has a MUCH better interior.

or think about a 2006 model if you can spend a little more. Upgraded head/tail lights, bluetooth, memory seats, etc.

but...definitely don't get the 2004

the overall feel of the buttons feel better for what your paying in the 05.
theyre softer to the touch. the volume control is also a ****, whereas the 04 you have an up and down button that you have to click. same goes for the climate control the 05 has a **** and the 04 has buttons.
I have an 07 and i know i have a joy stick kinda thing that moves my steering wheels position but im not sure if they implemented this in 05 or 06.
The gauge cluster is also slightly different.

04 only has brembos taht is the only plus

05 has new interior but no brembos

06 has the new style headlights, i like the older version better, adn diff tail lights i like the older ones from 05

i think the 05 with brembos is the best

but that is probabbly becasuei own a 2005 with brembos.

there all about the same, good luck and welcome to the community, it is the sexiest car for the price and nothing comes close looks wise till you about 90 grand, welcome

pre brembo

with brembo

This is the million dollar question: will your rev-up 05+ engine be a dud. I would not buy an 05+ that is out of warranty.

I, and many others here, specifically bought a new 04 even when the 05s were out. The 04 is lighter and has Brembos. There is no downside to the Brembos PERIOD except for maybe the dusty stock pads. They are superior in every way shape and form than the non-Brembo brakes. As long as you don't take your car to the dealer when you need new pads and rotors, the cost to service the Brembos is on par with any brake set up of this size. The dealer will rape the unsuspecting customer on Brembo service if you let them!

hmmm. If I took the car to a mechanic, would they be able to determine if the oil consumption problem exists? Or is it only noticable through continued use.

By the way, thank you everyone for your input. In numerous reviews, they always mention an upgraded interior, but it is hard to decide without actually having it described to you

I have a question, not sure if someone can answer this but, lets say this guy bought a 05/06 with 30k miles....1 owner... and you call the dealer this G was purchased from and asked if it ever been in for a oil consumption problem...if they say no do you think there is any chance that this car made it to 30k with oil consumption problems? I mean can it still happen after 30k miles if it has not yet? Because there are 05/06 out there with no oil consumption problems right??

What would be the best way of purchasing a 05/06 with knowing for sure that its not going to give you problems.... because I remember reading threads that this problem starts very early.... hope I made some sense if not try to answer what you think the question was for

ok not all 05-07 6MT's have the oil consumption problems if they did there would be a major recall on all 6MT's... if you think you have the oil consumption problems it is under warranty but it is a pain to prove and do all the testing...

i have an 05 6MT with 36K+ miles and i have no oil problems at all...

05+ has a nicer interior, 06 and 07 have bluetooth witch sucks... and you can always add the newer headlights/tails to your 04 or 05

the Brembos on the 04 are really not that much better than the 05 normal brakes... and they cost an arm and a leg to repair and the brake dust sucks.

05+ 6MT also has 19's iForged wheels witch are lighter than the 18's on the 04... and a 05+ have sport springs and shocks

05+ does not come with brembos
