I think marketing is the reason that the G35 is an Infiniti rather than a Nissan. Nissan has the Z as a coupe and the Maxima/Altima for sport sedans. I know there are significant differences with the G, but probably not enough to shoehorn it in as a Nissan - thus, Infiniti. I guess they figured most performance oriented buyers would go for the Z.
