Re: raced a m3

I raced 99 or 00. But same story!!! we went up to 125mph and I passed him. Considering that he pushed first that was very good!!! I have the 5AT.
Also for those how are familiar: There is a nice overhang going from 134E to 2N to try handling on. He couldn't keep up at all there. I was so ahead that I had to slow down alor to race him on the straight later.

Re: raced a m3

I've never heard of a race that was measured in mpg...pretty good idea though since the gas prices are getting high. And for you both to be at 125MPG....WOW.....makes those hybrid cars look like gas guzzlers.....;-)

Re: raced a m3

I wouldn't say woop. I would say it'll come down to the driver. I've driven a stock '98 M3 extensively and think an all out street race with my 6mt would come down to the driver.
IIRC...their 1/4 trap speeds were about 100mph so they've got plenty of ***** for "only" 240hp. My $.02.

Re: raced a m3

here goes the whole debating against 350z vs M3...
i mean..G35c vs M3..

lets not try to start this baby who is going to beat M3 or M3 is going to beat G35c or 350Z..
I am kinda tired of people thinking e36s are no challenge to 350Z or g35c..
i have seen paper of 13.5 sec 1/4 for e36 M3 and I have seen high 13, 350Zs. Let me tell you these old cars are worthy opponent to whatever g35 or 350z. I am not gonna go about the who has more horsepower crap.

"maybe you're thinking about the M coupe? Carpoint says 3557. "
actually if you look at the 2000 Car and Driver Ultimate Comparisons. They put up tests with Audi S4, M3, Saab and Merc. And they also feature M roadster and the curb weight, pound is 3094. Which probably means M coupe is probably roughly 3000 give or take. Yes surprisly for many people here on the board, M3 is lighter compare to the G35 or 350Z.

Although M3 does say 240 hp on the paper. Like the Skyline GT-R in Japan they underrated their motor. Skyline claim they have 280 but people agree it does have more than 280. If you guys can find the RWHP on M3..if you translate it into crank it does go over 240hp. For weight and the power ratio, yes it can run side by side with G35c or even 350z.
I have debating this issue since November with many of the 350z owners. This arguement simply goes on forever beacuse this "new" vs "old" issue and "287hp" vs "240hp" these 2 specific cars do have similarity and only difference is the paper number and the new vs old. So do you guys think you can beat 350Z on straight line performance with G35c? I doubt many of you guys here will say yes. I don't really know but I do know stock M3 running mid 13 on 1/4 miles. So please don't under estimate this holygrail of european cars.

don't get me wrong. I love both cars and i am not here to bash on both cars. I am getting G35c soon.. very soon.. and I probably know more about m3 than most of the people out there. Just trying to more imformative to those who doesn't know much about m3...

there is the link of the m3's timeslip..

Re: raced a m3

Don't underestimate everyone here's knowledge about other cars. An e36 M and a g35C are a good match for each other in the performance category. You're right about BMW and their HP ratings, they usually take those with all the accessories hooked up while most other Car companies do not. I just wish from the beginning we had the true European M3 that had 320hp (E36). Canada had it for one year, but the US never saw it.

yup.. Canada had the 1995 M3s with 286 bhp version. but only about 30 were shipped there. And it was roughly 60,000 cdn dollars. After that, they only brought out the detuned version which is 240bhp (the one you we are talking about). Of course people in Europe got M3 evolution 1996 model with 321 bhp. 1996-1999 it was 321 bhp and pre 1995 e36s were equipped with 6spd transmission while the pre 1995s were only 5 speed.

Re: raced a m3

Carpoint lies. I hate them so much, click on G35 or most new sports cars and they ALL say that it comes with a "1-speed F1 style shifter" and sometimes i've noticed they have engine displacement WAY off....i just dont trust msn carpoint anymore.
