Front licence plate holder
Front licence plate holder
I picked up my 6spd coupe a few weeks ago from a dealer outside the state I'm in, and they had already mounted the front licence plate holder (drilled two holes into the front bumper). I dont need front plates in my state. I want to remove the holder to give the car a cleaner look, but what should I do bout the holes in the bumper?
thanks
thanks
Re: Front licence plate holder
I had the same problem. Right now, I just have 2 ugly holes on the bumper. You can do 2 things......buy a set of bumper plugs and paint them. Or you can take the car to a body shop and have them fill it and paint it. I personally prefer the first option since I do not want a body shop touching the car at this point and you never know when you might actually need the front plate holes.
Re: Front licence plate holder
that is weird that they had to drill for the from licnce plate mount i live in ohio where you have to have it in the front and the dealer had a licence plate holder that fit intot he towing hole thingy in the front no drilling was nessisary.
Re: Front licence plate holder
Yeah same here in NY you have to have the front plate on, but no drilling was necessary because in the front there is a tow hook it just sliped right in there you should get that checked out from an infiniti dealership cause that sux that you have 2 holes on your bumper
Re: Front licence plate holder
Unfortunatley here in Cali they didn't check for a mounting bracket that would fit as you described in the tow hook hole. So the they just butchered the front buy drilling two stupid holes in the bumper. Then they put the plate on too tight so now there are scratches on the paint under the plate as well. Does anyone know where I can get those plugs for the lic. plate holes?

Re: Front licence plate holder
If you read the manual, it calls for drilling the holes. I don't think the factory plate mount was designed to stay on without drilling the holes.

Re: Front licence plate holder
do you think the dealer used the standard bracket and just pushed it into the tow hook hole without drilling the necessary holes to hold it? If so, wouldn't the front plate fall off?
Can you guys that have you front plates mounted without holes drilled into the bumper try and pull the front plate off and/or confirm how it is attached to the bumper?

Re: Front licence plate holder
Already checked. They simply drilled two pilot holes and then screwed in what appear to be self tapping screws with some type of lock shim to keep the screw from backing out of the bumper. The plate is two parts, the actual frame that goes around the plate (Free advertising bullsh$#), and the base mount which is a piece of black plastic so it doesn't look like someone just screwed the plate frame on. Anyone catching my bitterness about the subject? heh.

Re: Front licence plate holder
well on mine like i sed it just slid right into the tow mount thingy and then they went from the back to slide a pin through the part that went into the hole so it wont come out
i dont kow if what i just made any scence but that what i had to say
no drilling was needed on mine

Re: Front licence plate holder
i got 2 plugs from the dealer and used touch up paint they said the plugs were for something else on the car to hold some plastic trim down in the trunk or something
Re: Front licence plate holder
I was worried about the same thing before I got my coupe. Since Maryland doesn't require it (at least that its what I have been told but haven't researched it with MVA) I strictly informed the dealer not to even think about touching the front bumper.
He thought I was being picky and made a joke about it until I pointed out that all the press pictures I had seen show it without the plate.

Here is a pic for everyone of what this might look like. I found this over at Freshalloy.com

here is the thread

I hope that this is readily available solution, esp. for us here in Cali.

Re: Front licence plate holder
The picture you have linked to is the factory plate holder that came with my coupe and requires holes to be drilled on both sides of the access cover. If you look close you can see the holes on the horizontal centerline about an inch from the outside edge on both sides. Those holes all the way through the bumper. The square access hole in the bumper only holds the plate mount in place, there is no structural mount in the access hole.
