Got a front license ticket!

Someone posted this before, but just want to complain a bit! I was out for some ramen last night in Little Tokyo (LA). It's free parking Sunday night but some bored cop still gave me a ticket for not having front license plate attached. Down town LA traffic cops are REALLY ****. My friend got a ticket once for not having his car parked EXACTLY in the parking space (his front tire was touching the line).
I'm just wondering if anyone purchased the front license plate attachment thing for our G (fits on the tow hook)? Did anyone get the same ticket and placed their front plate on, then took it off after showing the cops?

Re: Got a front license ticket!

If the vehicle is on public roads or grounds, and its in violations of ANY traffic law, such as a no front plate violation, a cop can give you a ticket for it, no question about that. The only place he wouldn't be able to is if the car was on private property like your driveway, business parking lot, possibly some malls and so on.

Whether or not that cop didn't have anything better to do, its the poor bastards job and he's doing it. If you live in a state where you're required to have a front plate like NY and CA, you gotta have it, and if you don't, well then you really can't bitch about it. Take them as they come...

Lastly, regarding the ticket issue with putting it back on, and then trying to get out of it, and then taking it off again. That has worked for some, as they may consider it an "equipment violation" like a broken tail light, if you can proove to them it was off due to something wrong with the bracket and or such, but that often doesnt fly well with cops, specially when they see a little sports car without any signs of front end damage. They're not stupid, they know why its not on (it doesnt look good), so in some case, you may just dig your self into a deeper grave by trying to get out of it, because now they're gonna keep an extra eye out for your ride, and when they catch ya without a plate - BAM... time for another ticket!

Pay up, if you can afford to have it off, live with it, otherwise, you gotta put it on dude...

Be good!

Hummmm. . . no more street parking for me then. . . didn't someone purchased a front plate mount that attaches to the tow hook? How many people actually place their plate under the windshield? Curious as to how coupe drivers deal with this issue.

Re: Got a front license ticket!

I recently got a ticket for not having my front license plate on. I bought the tow hook frame and put it on last week. It was pretty easy to do and seems to be sturdy enough.

I don't think I'll be taking off again. I don't know what kind of history they keep in their computers about this type of ticket and I doubt the cops will be pleased if you get another ticket for the same thing.

Re: Got a front license ticket!

I haven't got a ticket yet. Cross-my-fingers, Ahh ... who cares what the cop thinks. In CA, not having a front plate is illegal ... take the ticket, put the plate on, pay for the ticket, and take it off again.

Big talk now, prolly have my tail between my legs when I actually do get pulled over.

Re: Got a front license ticket!

I don't want to steal this thread, but I have a question....
Is it the front plate that the police hone in on with there radar?

The other day I was doing about 80mph on the Garden State Parkway in Jersey, the cop was off the shoulder sideways so he could get a good shot at the on comming vehicles....I know he had me in his sights, but it was dark out...so I am assuming he couldn't get a reading off my car because of the missing plate....make any sense to anybody??

I thought for sure I was getting two tickets one for speeding and the other for no front plate.....someone was looking out for me....not to mention the clear corners w/piaa's
I'm definitely 2old4this

Re: Got a front license ticket!

welllllllllll, duc, my man, not exactly...here in the east, I've heard of a couple of instances where if you either have expired tags, or cars without plates just sitting there on your property it's not only tagged. sometimes it's towed away! which means to me, an enterprising "gendarme" could drive down a street of supposedly known scofflaws (those who decide NOT to put on their front plate) and ticket cars in driveways, covered carports, etc. and it would be legal. so far, that hasn't happened.

remember, too, wash. dc (which is also in the general area I'm speaking of above) is the first place (that I know of) that is now attempting to put in speed cameras in the same lights where they have red light running cameras. they would then be able to issue tickets to both red light runners AND those speeding above the limit.

interesting world, isn't it?

Re: Got a front license ticket!

I have one of the tow-hook license plate adapters. You can get them at Strictly Z It doesn't stick out much, and works just fine.

I did see a post once that had instructions for building your own, but I don't remember if it was on here or FreshAlloy.

Re: Got a front license ticket!

In my experience they dont keep any track. In my old car I got a couple, you put the plate on get it signed off pay your $10 fee, done.

I never have nor ever will have a front plate on my car, I and firmly believe there are a LOT better things cops can be doing than ticketing cars with no front plate. They are supposed to be there to make roads safer, but it seems more or less they are just there to generate revenue.

Re: Got a front license ticket!

When I'm driving my winter beater (pic in profile) I'm always getting pulled over for just looking at officers funny....I guess it looks like a druggie's car or something. I NEVER get pulled over in my nicer cars.
Anyways, it never fails.....they pull me over, realize I'm not the kind of person they were expecting to find (a crackehead I suppose) then issue me a warning for having no front plate and be on their way. I have this theory that officers like that people drive with no front plates since it gives them an excuse to pull you over...in my neck of the woods anyways.
