how do you remove the trim piece that houses the map light/sunglasses holder. I got the clear lens and the inside switch housing off but I can't figure out how to remove the outside trim piece. I felt around in the hole and can't seem to find any clips (there does seem to be some sort of threaded stud or something up there). I'm hoping that the headliner doesn't need to come down to remove the thing, but it seems like its attached to it.

 

I'm not 100% sure...but I've seen some LCD screen upgrades on other cars and the headliner usually has to be half way taken down....usually from the sunroof side.....PM TrentaCinque......I think hes done alot of interior mods....he may be able to help you out....<font color=blue>2old4this</font color=blue>

Here's part of a post from the FAQ/DIY section...not sure if you've already done this part and can't figure something else out, but here it is anyway:

Using a flat blade screwdriver or a putty knife carefully pry down the rear (car's rear direction) of the interior light assembly. There is a small white 3 wire connector on the passenger side of that assembly that you will need to unplug. Slide a very small screwdriver into the connector release catch and it will come apart easily.

I already got out the inside light assembly, now I only need to get off the outside trim piece. I don't have a sunroof, so does that mean I need to take down the whole headliner?

 

There are 2 clips holding the housing to the roof (metal part, not headliner). Here's one of them circled. In the pic you're looking forward so those clips are at the forward, windshield side, of the sunglass holder. You'll need to get fingernails or a couple of screwdrivers to pry those and pop them off.

There are also 4 more snaps holding the housing to the headliner. 2 on each side, one at the rear corner, the other about mid way.

Sorry I couldn't get everything in one shot but I didn't take my headliner off, I just pulled it down by the sunroof. Let me know if you need any more info. Good luck.

dang, thats what I figured. how do those circular clips come off, just pry them up? Since I don't have the sunroof, looks like i'll have to take the liner off. Thanks for the pics Russ.

 

Trenta, do you or anyone else know of a K40 radar install up inthe sunglass holder?

 

how did u get the switch assembly out? my driver side switch got messed up acts weird i have to press it 3 times for it to turn on weird :/ but it would b nice of u if u make a DIY for it THANKS!

 

If you're talking about the light, then you just take a credit card or something and stick it into the right side of the plastic covering and pop it out.

 

At least he searched but a 9 year old thread? Really......
