Clearance light install
Clearance light install
I checked all the posts and some said you have to remove the wheel well liner to get at it. I agree, but how do you get those clips off and is it really necessary to take the wheel off? Also how many clips and screws are there?
Thanks

Re: Clearance light install
There are about 5 or 6 clips per side, and bout 2 or 3 screws per side. cant remember exactly. no not necessary to remove tires, but it would def make it easier.

Re: Clearance light install
you pull out the center part then the clip will be loose, just pull it out.
I don't have the exact number memorized, maybe around 6 clips, 2 screws and 8 bolts to get the liner completely off.
You don't have to remove the wheel, just turn it.

Re: Clearance light install
you dont even have to turn the wheel if you jack up the car.....its kinda a pain in the a$$ though....bending the plastic and all....the right way to do it is the remove the entire plastic cover (but thats more work)

Re: Clearance light install
Here is my previous post from 2/6/04 about clearence strip light install.
There is a thread in the DIY section.
You really don't need to jack up the car. I didn't.
1. Turn wheel to one extreme so that it exposed wheel well
(while working on driver side lights, turn steering wheel clockwise...I think that's right....you get the idea)
2. Using flathead screwdriver, pop off plastic clips on front plastic wheel well. Remove 2 screws from top of wheel well at about 11:30 and 10 o'clock of wheel well on border of body trim.
3. Pull down front wheel well piece of plastic. ( there are 2 pieces of plastic that make up wheel well, front one is tucked under back palstic piece) You don't have to pull it down all the way, just enough to see the clearence light ?red? plastic
rectangular bracket.
4. Turn ?red? rectangular bracket counterclockwise and slowly remove bulb housing which is attached to bracket.
5. Using a clean latex glove, remove stock bulb and replace with your wedge 168 PIAA or whatever bulb as your hands are full of muck from messing with the dirty wheel well.
6. Carefully reinsert bulb bracket into hole and turn clockwise to lock into place.
7. At this point, you can secure your clear corners with ducatiguy's clear corner antitheft mod.
8. replace the plastic wheel well and put in screws and clips.
**NOTE: I am doing this from work from my memory so counterclockwise may actually mean clockwise and I think the clearance strip light bracket was red. lol You get the idea. ONce you do one side, you'll fly through the opposite bulb replacement on the other side.

Here is my DIY for hooking up the side marker to the turn signal, but there is some good view of the inside that will help you to locate the clearance light:
Turn Signal Mod
I personally was not able to open up the side well AND work on this mod without removing the wheel - but then again, this mod is more involved than just swapping clearance bulbs, so if you have small hands you might be able to get away without removing the wheel - like other have said: there are 5 or 6 clips to remove, and 3 screws underneath where the bumper meets the wheel well - on the corner.
