Winter driving..

How is your car in the snow? I just bought a 03 Coupe and it didn't have snows on it. Today I made the mistake of taking it to work. By the end of the day, I had to leave it at work praying it won't get hit by a plow at work. So with snows, how is it. Keep in mind I have a supercharger on it...

Re: Winter driving..

My car drives just fine in the snow. But then again, I have snow tires, and I don't have a supercharger. Snow tires help a whole lot.

Re: Winter driving..

It's not bad at all.

Not an AWD still, but not bad at all.

Even with the supercharger... I don't have any experience personally, but I know others with some relatively powerful cars... and yeah, as long as you're pretty damn careful, and get some good snows, you should be fine.

Re: Winter driving..

i had to do exactly what you did, at the beginning of the season. i left my car at work and got a ride home. it sucked. today, wasnt so bad though. just got home. as long as you dont go too fast and dont hit the gas too hard. i had a few slips but the vdc kicked in and i was back on track. just keep it slow. i dont know about the supercharger. i had a 99 vette, and with the added hp, i know i wouldnt have even got out of my parking lot.

Re: Winter driving..

I don't know if the manual is better than the auto, but my car is a death trap with the Pilots....
I had to stay home today because of the persistent winter weather.....I do drive about 50 miles each way so I would rather be safe than sorry... 2old4this

Well the Auto is better an a Manual! 1st off!!!

The pilots are horrible in just dry snow. Todays 9+ inches wasn't that too too bad. I went sideways in my coupe of times but I made it do that!

Re: Winter driving..

I think the entire key is the tires. I have all weathers on mine and it is fine in the snow. Sure the rear end is going flip out sideways from time to time but that's half the fun!. I kinda freaked at the beginning of my first winter with the G but with the all weather tires I actually like it better than my other front wheel drive car.

Re: Winter driving..

wrah,
i've always prefered a manual over auto on wet roads. more control.

Re: Winter driving..

..I don't know how people driving their Coupes with the Pilots in snow can say it's "not that bad". It's plain horrible.

I've tried twice to drive my car in the snow, both times made it about 50 yards from my house. My street is on an incline, and after trying to get up the street for about 15 minutes, I threw it in reverse, parked in the garage and drove my SUV.

Re: Winter driving..

Keep in mind you can always drive the AT in manual mode. Granted, you ain't got a clutch to mash down on, but at least you can pick and choose your gear and shift times.

Re: Winter driving..

but in manumatic mode, isn't it that you can only force a gear to be lower, rather than force the tranny to be in a higher gear? If not then I apologize.

Just saying, cause when you're driving on snow, you don't want to downshift, you want to keep as little torque to the wheels, which means higher gears.

Re: Winter driving..

Driving in the snow on the Pilots is just plain stupid....we'll if you live in the New England area it is. After that first day in pilots back in november I immediately purchased some snow tires. I can no go up a 45 degree hill in 5 inches of snow with no problem.
