Look what I found when I picked up my car from Jim Coleman Infiniti...

So I had some brake work and an oil change done today at Jim Coleman Infiniti.

As I'm about to get into my car to leave I noticed the damage pictured below.

Someone must have backed it into something. It isn't evident from the pictures, but the bumper is dented. The impact must have occurred right where the right side license plate light assembly is, because that is now dangling down just above my license plate.

Not only is the paint chipped and scratched along almost an entire foot, but the lower corners of the area where the license plate fits are cracked from the impact as well.

They're arranging to "fix my bumper" on Monday, but I think because it's dented I'm going to need a new one, so I called them to let them know they should have one ready.

Now what REALLY pisses me off is that no one told me this happened - I was fortunate enough to have found it myself before leaving the property. Hopefully nothing like this has happened to any of you before. If it has, did the dealer have any show of good faith to get you to come back? I only go to JCI because of its close proximity to where I live - there are 3 other Infiniti dealerships within 20 minutes of me, so if this is the sort of thing I can expect from them, I will no longer be giving them my business.

Another Dealership damage post....hardly the first!

From what I've read on our site dealership damage is common! (sorry to say)
I sounds like they will take care of the damage, consider yourself lucky some
dealerships refuse to take responsibility. I think the only safe way to leave
you car is to take pic with your camera/phone of all four sides and make them
aware you're doing so. Maybe they'll be more considerate/carefull with your
car....gotta love "Stealerships!"

eventhough they will pay for the damages, it's such a hassle to get things fix, ...dropping it off, picking it up, checking to see if the paint match, etc.

It's my exact reason why i try to work on everything myself unless completely necessary. Even trusted mechanics have bad days.

Yeah, the record of service is a big deal to me. I'd much rather go elsewhere, but while I'm under warranty, it's probably worth it.

As an NGC member I can get some discounts at dealerships that aren't too far away - looks like I'll be doing just that next time I need work done.

Unhappy

I left my dealership and got about a half mile away to stop and top off the tank, and while the gas was pumping, I did a quick "walk around" and noticed a "chip" on my passenger side door that wasn't there before - TRUST ME I WOULD KNOW. LOL.

Like 99.98% of you all, I'm really particular about the coupe and VERY knowledgeable of her condition top-to-bottom / front-to-back each and every day (I only put like 3-4K on her a year, so that helps).

Anyways, I called up Service and explained to them that a brand new chip was present that didn't exist prior to the dealership service visit. I told them that I was running late as it was to a meeting and that I would not be able to bring her in, until the next business day.

The Service Manager took a look @ the chip when I was able to take the coupe back to them, and was cool but sort of an @ss at the same time, b/c he "inspected" the chip and said out loud "Well, there isn't any rust present, so it does indeed look new". - as if I were going to blame a pre-existing condition on them...I'm sure they are just covering their end, but he could have kept the comment to himself (my .02).

Service called me up the next day and (this part surprised me -their honesty) said that they attempted a "air brush" job, but that it wasn't going to work, b/c it didn't come out well enough to "pass my test" (they know how particular I am about the coupe); and he said he would have the entire door repainted.

I'm not certain as to what approach they took (painting the entire door, or what), but the outcome was like going back in time, and the chip never occurring, so you can say that I was 100% satisfied (even though it sucked to have it happen in the first place and to deal with the situation).

GOOD LUCK w/ the Bumper.

My .02 is that they should have a new bumper, fully painted to match and just "swap" it out with the damaged bumper when you get there - done deal.

Let us know what happens bro.

Thanks Guys!

never give them any business. They are the worst dealer in the d.c area, and they have the worst rep to prove it. least and bought my car there, but was never dumb enough to take it in for service there.

I had something like this happen to my old Z, but they denied doing it when I found it. It was so obvious that they had did it (the marks were from a machine) that my insurance company threaten to sue them if they didn't pay for the damages. Well they did, and it costed about $2,000 to fix it (they did same damage)

Feel lucky that they are taking the blame and not doing what happened to me.

That sucks. Atleast they are taking care of it.

Dealerships FTL. I have never, nor will I ever, trust my car with any dealership. Unfortunately, sometimes I have no choice but to "trust" them with my car.

I've heard about their rep before, but I'll give someone the benefit of the doubt if I personally have a good experience, of which I had previously had several. (AAM comes to mind - bad rep from the past, I've had nothing but excellent dealings with them).

If I get a new bumper out of the incident, I wouldn't consider myself "dumb". It had two other imperfections I knew about on the corners of it, and it had previously been repainted before my purchase and had bad fish eyes from the hack paint job.

I'm glad they're taking care of it.

WhiteonWheat - I'm ridiculously **** about my car as well and know each and every imperfection - I could probably draw a map on a diagram of the car of each and every one. The irony here is that there is a small scuff on a corner of the bumper from last week when a hotel in Baltimore valet parked my car. Nothing major, but I noticed on my walk around. It would probably be possible to buff it out, but now it's a moot point. My anger at not being contacted after the 5 business days of the incident report they guarantee has now been redirected and amplified at Jim Coleman Infiniti.

Lucky for the valet company, they won't have to feel my wrath, but now JCI will.
