Second day of owning the car, it breaks down *updated*

Wow lol! Just the second day with the car, not even 24 hours I heard this grinding noise while pulling into the parking lot where I work.. Have no clue what it was...So its time to go home, and as I'm backing out of the spot, I hear that grinding noise again and some metal parts clinging and clanging and stuff FALLING off the car! I look under and dont see anything.. Thank god the car makes it to infiniti of scottsdale. The service dept is closed but some new car salesmen came out and took a look at the car for me.. I showed them everything and said I should be able to take it home but not to drive it ( I live a half mile away).

So I'm backing out again, and a HUGE thump noise comes and the car won't reverse anymore!!!!!!!!! Kinda like the ebrake was engaged but it wasn't.. So I carefully pull in the handicap spot, go inside and tell them that I want to leave my car there.. Some more sales guys come out and I show them whats wrong and they were in total shock.. The car reverses about 3 feet then the thump comes and its stuck in reverse.. I give it a little gas, and the car wants to move back but it just stays there exactley like the ebrake is engaged.

I bought extended warranty, so they should cover it.. but that was through the audi dealership that I bought it from.. Would they take it to infiniti to fix it anyways, or do they have to tow the car into audi?

I honestly hope they don't acuse me of abuse because I would have to break some legs.

Infiniti guys were totally cool though, they said they can take care of it as long as audi lets.. There was a crowd of people around my car when I was showing them whats wrong.. Pretty funny.

Wow only 21K? Sounds like the previous owner may have abused it. Luckily your factory powertrain warranty applies until 6 years or 70,000 miles, so you're still covered by Infiniti under that.

So you guys think its a tranny problem?

Anyone know why all the metal/ grinding noises were coming from the driver side front tire?

That is rather weird... if you find the text of the powertrain warranty you'll see that it covers a lot more than just your tranny, so odds are whatever is wrong will be covered.

Sounds like catastrophic failure of some sort, that's for sure.

Sorry to hear about that man, I heard that the first few batches of the 350z and g35's, the 03 and early 04 models had some transmission issues... Is this true? Just to be on the safe side I took a 3rd party warranty that covers Engine, power-train, seals, gaskets, belts, and a few other important components.

The only common tranny issue I have seen is the synchros which only caused gears to grind. I think this is something else. Keep us posted!!

Update:

Infiniti calls me back saying that the problem was that the front left caliper is loose and has been moved out of place...

Anyone know if this is covered under the powertrain warranty? The service consultant said hes going to contact Audi to see if they will let the infiniti dealer fix it, or if Audi wants to take it to fix it. They're keeping the car over night.

I'm getting very impatient for some reason.

Brakes have nothing to do with the powertrain...it sounds more like a tranny problem.
