Is service for real?
Is service for real?
I just had my G serviced today - while in the dealership I read the posted service schedules - I cant actually follow what they are really doing for the money - each of the maintenance schedules has a long list of inspections - most of which seem like basic common sence anyway and then the only real action item - change oil. - Do you think the folks in the workshop actually do this and if so is this really just a precursor to selling some parts - or do you think I can go ahead and inspect myself and take the car to Mr Lube and get the job done in 15 minutes without the "Im being processed song!!" - and not have any future warranty liablity issues with the car?
Re: Is service for real?
I only take my cars to the dealership for the major maintenance stops, i.e., 15k, 30k, 45k, 60k.... The oil change, topping fluids, rotating tires, inspection, can all be done yourself. I've found in the past that mfrs will honor the warranty so long as you maintain a log book and receipts for the oil, filters, etc. When you take your car to the Infiniti dealership, you're basically paying for their high overhead on stuff like constantly renovated showrooms and free loaner cars. Save your money, and DYI.

I get my oil changes at Park Ave Infiniti and the total comes to 28.62 , which I don't think is bad at all. I'm also out of there within an hour. I know I can get it done cheaper, but I really don't mind paying a few extra bucks to have everything done at the dealer.

As Rainmeister says, it's ok to do most of the maintenance items yourself and save some money.
Keep receipts and a log book to prove you did the work.
I've done this for years and had no issues.

I get mine done at a car wash. It's 52 dollars (I get full synthetic) and i'm out in 5-10 minutes. Hey BlueGCoupe? Do you live in NJ? You mean the Infiniti dealership in Englewood? I GOT MY G THERE!

malx, yeah I bought my car in Englewood, too. I don't live in Jersey, though. I live right over the bridge in NY, it only takes me about 10-15 minutes to get there.

I pay $19.99 ($14.99 on Saturdays) to have mine done at the Nissan dealership in Lubbock, since there is no Infiniti dealership. Like others have said, I know I could have it done for probably $10 at some shady jiffy lube place, but to me it's worth the extra couple bucks to ensure that it's done right, and if it isn't, at least I know they'll be responsible and fix whatever went wrong.

I dont know if I should laugh or cry!
I guess we get taxed out here in SoCal because they think we all have money. An Oil Change at Santa Monica Infiniti is $89.95. At Miller Infiniti in Van Nuys (where I got my G), it's $69.95.
I went ahead and perpaid for lifetime service on my G. Call me stupid but $695 for a lifetime of oil changes and brake jobs seemed worth it. I think this was a Miller only type of thing, because I have to take it there to utilize the program. The beauty is that they have separate Nissan and Infiniti dealers there that both honor the warranty...if I can't get an appointment at one, I can pop into the other. The Nissan boys like when I stop by anyway

Re: Is service for real?
YEah the nissan guys are the best. They do things in a day that take weeks at my infiniti dealer. And when they see the crawford plenum and injen intake they dont go "jeez, i sure cant undersatnd why you guys do all that stuff to yer cars..they already have a ton of power"...thats from the head teck at my dealer today on my 2nd attempt to get the window rattle fixed. Sounds like i'll be going in again since they wont replace the actuator and wanted me to have the grease streak instead. I feel like im having deja vu from what Gordgee experienced..
Re: Is service for real?
Is there any difference between a Nissan oil change and a Infiniti oil change? I have both right next to me but if Nissan is cheaper, maybe its better to go to them for the minor check ups. I rather not pay more $$$ if I don't have to...
Any thoughts???

Re: Is service for real?
yea, i got ripped at my first oil change, they did a full service when i only asked for an oil change, they charged me $85 to do an oil change and top off my windshiled washer fluid (they did check brake wear and all other fluids, but would that stuff really be needed to be checked on a car that only had 3750 miles on it? cmon, they were yankin my third leg)...and sum ppl on this forum have said that in order to maintain your warranty u must keep up with the regular scheduled maintenance program. i guess some dealerships are cool like that and will accept receipts if you DYI, but unfortunately mine (Pepe Infiniti) isn't...talking with other car owners (acura, lexus, bmw, mercedes) they say that they can run their car forever without even changing the oil and it won't void their warranty. they don't have to have their car checked up by their dealer or anything. if they ever ran into a problem, it would be resolved without them checking a maintenance program or any type of receipt. is this an issue that infiniti owners should bring up to higher authorities because we in a sense are paying extra for this warranty, and if you think about it, if you don't follow their schedule, you basically bought a brand new car with no warranty. bmw and mercedes even gives free maintenance for the life of their warranty. i mean, i can afford to pay the maintenance on the car, don't get me wrong, but i don't think that we should have to follow it in order to maintain our warranty, i feel like we're being forced to give them money for something that all other cars come with standard with no fine print.
