Probably the VSS.. Vehicle speed sensor..

This was a big known problem on acura legends... My speedometer wouldn't work so my car would be thinking its going 0 MPH therefore the odometer wouldn't move.

hes out of warranty already and wants to fix it on his own. would anyone know where we could find the speed sensor on the car, and about how much a new one might cost?

I've had this happen on my car twice and both times it was resolved by doing a reset using the battery disconnect method (not the quick reset method). I just disconnected the battery overnight (12 hours) and it has beed fine since then.

Not saying this will resolve your problem since you may have a completely different issue then I had, but it doesn't hurt to try. Good luck
