Let me just say I am a tad disappointed with the car. There are no bug related problems with the engine or drivertrain/etc. However the interior is whats really "bugging" me.

a. My driver side window/door started to rattle a year or so back (this happens when i have the music and base up), brought it into the dealership to get it fixed, twice! And its still doing the same thing.

b. The clutch from the interior is making some weird creeking noise, seems to me that its not lubed up enough or something. Also brought this in to the dealer twice over the past 3 years, still havent gotten it fixed. has nothing to do with then engine part, since the noise is coming from the inside.

c. My driver seats backrest seems to be loose, everytime i brake or acc a bit harder i can feel my backrest shift. also brought this in to the dealer twice over the past 3 years, still havent gotten it fixed.

Other than the interior details I dont find anything wrong with the car. IMO it was a $35k car, it shouldn't be doing this, however I do understand that I purchased the 1st generation version and there are bound to be some problems. However I am happy that its not engine related.

I have no mods what so ever, i am also actually thinking of selling my coupe and getting the new M3. But its pretty damn pricey imo.

Anyone have an estimate on how much I could get for my coupe? Its an 03 6mt, with about 52k miles on it. (give it to me easy :P)
Have you checked our what you can('t) buy for $35k? The performance and style of the G are a steal at that price. Your car is 5 years old with 50k+ miles and you are upset about those things? I have an 04 with 81K that has given me no problems except for some defective hood hinges. Sure there are some rattles inside. But I'm not complaining. Have you driven another $30k car lately? They are either fugly or have no performance. Or both.

Keep the car you just bought ONE MONTH ago. Jeeez.

ur lookin at about anywhere from 17-19 depending on the condition.. that's what 03's i looked at went for. a 03 black on black with 24k miles was at 19k so im guessin ur lookin at a lil lower than that

I bet for the actual transaction cost involved in switching cars, you could probably fix everything that will go wrong with it out of pocket.
lol i noe. well ive just been checking the papers and craigslist at the prices of cars and i theres really nothing like a G for the price i got unless i got a hyundai or some cheap scion.

I am in the same boat but I bought an 03.5 (second production run). Knock on wood, I have had basically no problems with the car. I have about 70000KM (~45K miles). Everything that I felt was defective was replaced by the dealer before she ran out of warranty last year. Yes the interior creaks a bit but I have learned to live with it. I padded what I could but for the most part, I don't find it that bad. I creaks less than my buddies 06 Audi A4. I bought this car for the engine, tranny, drivetrain and the looks. Interior is almost second in my opinon.

All in all, I couldn't be happier. Now that the warranty is up, time for the JWT TT kit . I plan on keeping this thing as my "toy" weekend car for many years to come.

P.S. - I was also thinking last year that I might sell it and buy a 4 year old 911 or something. I could do it, but by the time I mod what I want, the price would be through the roof. I kept the G because parts are readily available, I can work on most of it myself, and you can build this thing into a monster street sleeper on a relatively decent budget (yes 10-13K is a lot but try to do that with a 911, or an AMG).

Let me rephrase...I bought the car 5 years ago, 2003 ("a couple months after the G coupe came out"). The problems that I was addressing earlier happened a year or so after i got my G (2004-2005 ish).

With 20k+ trade in for my G I could probably find a decent used E46 M3. Don't get me wrong, I love the G, I have so much fun driving it as my daily. However i am disappointed that these problems that I've addressed earlier happened after the car was 2 years old.

In no way am I bashing the G, maybe I just got unlucky and got a semi-lemon, however I do believe there were a few glitches/bugs for 03-03.5 Gs.

So I'm guessing its just my 03.5 G then. Honestly the interior / sunroof creeking does not bother me now that my cars about 5 years old (creeking started happening half a year after i got my G, 2004.5 ish, brought it in to the dealer had the sunroof sealing replaced...twice).

What really bothers me is my clutch. Disregard the fact that the gears arent shifting as smoothly as i like, the release point is too high up, what my issue really is that the damn pedal won't stop squeeking inside.

This is NOT a lubrication issue, as I have already coated the interior connector / spring / movable parts with WD40. I believe it has something to do with the pedal / connector / spring having parts loose, therefore causing rubbage.

Well, as a first run 03 owner I have had minor things go wrong like the seat track break, window motors dying, the creaks and other noises that have already been mentioned. But never did it eat up oil like others have claimed and really nothing mechanically wrong with it for the 5 years I have owned it. I do take care of my cars, but still drive them pretty hard. So, in my opinion if you like the car I say keep it. No reason worrying about things that MIGHT go wrong.

Mine squeaks as well. It just started a little while ago. Not sure what it is. There is a DIY on how to lower the clutches engagement point though. If it really bothers you, then this might be the way to go. From what I saw, it didn't look that hard.

Also I installed a Rogue engineering short shift kit and this thing is by far the best upgrade so far. It shortens the throw, the vibration in the shifter is less and it feels much more solid than with the stock shifter. I would start with that as your first mod if you find it annoying. I love mine and I haven't found a post yet of anyone not loving this shifter. I should have installed this thing years ago.

Thanks for the info/suggestion elrooko, however I dont think I will be modding up my G. Its almost 5 years old with close to 53k miles on it.

After reading my previous posts I found I kinda trailed off subject.
If I were the OP I would NOT sell my G.

I would also like to add that there have been NO mechanical Issues with the engine/transmission what so ever. I did not experience the engine oil issue some 04-05 owners have. No recalls.

All problems with my car are INTERIOR issues, and they started happening less than a year after I got my car (car purchased in Sept 2003). My friend owns a 05 coupe AT and I really have to say that their interiors are wayyyyy nicer than the 03-04's.

Cheers!

Hey Rhino, could you clarify the issue regarding the "seat track" breaking? I think I might be in the same boat, whenever I acc. or dec. kind of hard I feel a shift in my driver seat, pretty sure its not only the backrest but the entiring seating.

My car's way past the warrnty, any idea how much this would run me?

Also, regarding the window motor breaking, I've experienced that too, this was when the car had about 20k miles, got it fixed under warranty, however. I find that my driver side window rattles when I have a music and base up in the car. The dealer did get it fixed when I brought it in for a 50k maintenance, however the issue has come up again, and I'm thinking it could have something to do with the plastic seal being torn about 2 inches.

cheers again
