To the people who just bought a used G35 Coupe
Yeah I've been looking around for quite a few months now, an 04 with that kind of mileage runs around 18k in my area. And black on black is hard to come by, I was wondering if haggling down to 12k would make it worth it
It all depends on your area. For example for Tampa, your price is a fairly good price. Especially since the 6-speeds picks up a tad bit more. I'm very close to some of the dealers in the tampa/sarasota area and they have told me that their are numerous dealers down here from up north, so the prices at the auctions are severely inflated.
I think your best bet is to buy private party. I was looking all winter at G's and there were a ton of deals but I never pulled the trigger. I ended up finding this one on craigslist and the dude was selling for $15,250 and went down to $14,750. Registration and taxes for the car was $284 total. I have purchased my last two cars private party and imo that is the only way to go if you want to save money. Good luck!
I bought mine 1st week of January 2007
LR 04 coupe....6MT.....Brembos.......Aero/premium pkg...everything but NAV/SAT, 32k miles, clear carfax.........$23.5 with tax/docs......
The invoice from the 1st owners was in the car and they had paid $37ish..late 04 if I recall correctly............
Although later I discovered that the linkage of the keyhole cylinder was broken
Also I bought mats, had three keys made, n one keyfob for $140 total...
Not to mention that over the last 3 years have blown some cash on cosmetic and sound system modifications.......as we all have :=)
Also remember it is a Supply n Demand thing, when a new model is released (and a hot one like the G), the prices will be higher since there will not be too many used ones in the market place........a few years later when there is a significantly larger pool of used cars available, the deals r much better....... remember ppl paying $1000 for playstation3s when initially released........
I had budgeted myself at $20K then and was really looking at 350z since none of the G35 were in range then.........and I went and looked at few for almost 3 months but could not find one....... this was the best deal I could find without salivating for several more months...........
Lastly you also need to look at the "opportunity cost", an activity that is foregone in pursuit of another one.........for e.g
If I have the potential to make $40/hour, lets say writing Java code then rather than spending 100 extra hours looking/driving for a G that is $2K cheaper, I can work the xtra 100 hours, make $4K and still come out $2k better at the end......
My point is look around but dont obsess over a small price differential, the market usually corrects itself.........just my .02
