Torque Wrenches

Hi all,

I am a new G35 coupe owner, and with springtime coming, it will be soon time to switch out the winter tires.

As this is my first car, I thought it might be good to get into the habit now of doing as much of the work on my own as possible to save money over a lifetime of owning cars....

I'm just wondering what the torque target is for changing tires on the G35... Canadian tire has a sale on for torque wrenches for like $40, so I thought it might be a good time to pick one up. The one I'm looking at : "3/8"-drive torque wrench, with 25 - 250 in/lbs. torque setting".

1) Will this be sufficient for changing the tires on my car?
2) If so, what setting do I use?

On the Sedan, 85 ft/lbs for lug nuts.

I would buy a 1/2" for that, and a inch/lbs in 3/8"

Lug nuts require 80 ft/lbs. You need a 1/2" drive torque wrench that goes from 20 - 150 ft/lbs. The 25 - 250 in/lbs you mentioned is the equivalent to 2 - 20 ft/lbs.

Get the good torque wrench they have at Canadian Tire. They also sell a cheapo that may not be very accurate. The good one clicks when you reach the target and has both in/lbs and ft/lbs and is very easy to set to the right spec.

Get the 20 - 150lbs wrench its needed when you wanna do your brakes as well, a good torque wrench is a must for any mechanic, plus you can make the Tim Allen noise any time you need to use it.

The good one from Crappy tire is just as good as the Sears one, and it will also perform just as well for the back yard mechanic as the expensive Snapon or other higher end tools. Provided it is treated properly (I am talking for the casual user).
