Staggered or not staggered?
Staggered or not staggered?
here's my question: my brother has an R33 skyline with 18x10.5 inch rims. i know the bolt pattern will match, but the thing is if the offset matches and the rim fits, will the fact that the front and rear is not staggered affect the handling of the car? i'm not quite sure of the offset, but if the rims fit it will look super sweet, i'm just worried about going form a staggered configuration to a non-staggered configuration in the handling department. When u have a car that doesnt have a staggered config from the factory, u can put a staggered config and not have a handling issue, i figured it goes both ways. Any intelligent feedback is appreciated.

Re: Staggered or not staggered?
You could always make your stagger in the tires. If they aren't staggered the VDC will trigger. That's what I was told when I went to buy my wheels, anyone know anything different? Also, aren't the factory wheels the same size, just different size tires?

Re: Staggered or not staggered?
If the VDC senses tire slippage, then the staggered question is moot unless one tire is always slipping correct? Assuming that you use the correct over all tire diameter, then it should pose no problems. People have been using 9.0" rims in front and no issues. How intelligent is the VDC anyhow? I think that it senses slippage and the tire size is not an issue unless you calculated wrong and now it is slipping or spinning faster than preset stock speeds and rotations per mile.
In my thoughts, the only question in regards to the staggered look is what do you want appearance wise. Larger rears = deeper lips and a more aggressive look, but can create understeer. Same sized tires and rims = a more neutral steering but not as aggressive due to the rims look and the stance.
But thats just my thoughts.

Re: Staggered or not staggered?
Along with affecting tracking in turns (how the backs follow the fronts around the arc), the biggest deal about stagger is grooves in the road. Our stagger gives a clean run, rather than the twitchy "hunting" some cars do with the grooves, kinda like a train following the tracks. The G seems to go where you point it, rather than obeying the road.
