Can you program the 06 smart key to work with the 04 g35 coupe?

no. they are on different frequencies. i did use an ikey cover and accordfreaks directions to patch the guts from the standard remote to fit the ikey case. it took a good 8 hours total and lots of frustration, but it can be done.
