15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I do?
I don't even think im getting 15mpg...something is seriously wrong. I filled it up and have kept it under 4,000rpm. Im 25 miles in and my needle is already down like 4 notches. This is ridiculous. Its been like this since I've bough my car but this is the first time I've cared to take note.

Where are you located at? what's the weather like? what's your city/hgwy percentage ? is it stop and go traffic? - all of the above are major factors.
If it makes you feel better, my MPG is not that great either, and I do 80% hgwy and 20% city.

Ive got 3800 miles on my 6MT, and am very pleased with the gas mileage, especially compared to my old RX-8 (15mpg hwy). I got a drop in K&N and switched to Mobil 1, and mileage has steadily increased to around 24 MPG. I was doing a super gas mileage run going only 70MPH on the hwy and the nav was reporting 27.9 mpg after about 5-10 minutes. I get around 450 miles or so per tank. I would take it to the dealer.
Re: 15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I do?
I think it has a lot to do with how much stop-and-go you encounter. I have a couple of ways to get to work. Same distance. One is less overall traffic, but there's one spot where it can literally take 10-15 minutes to go half a mile (across a heavily trafficed intersection). Lots of sitting in one place idling. I take that route over a week, and I get less than 15 mpg. Different route, more traffic, but no single place I'm sitting still for any length of time and I'm up around 17.

Well, I don't want tu upset you but I'm getting 22-24mpg driving daily 90 miles (70% hway 30% suburbs) and not below speed limit (you know what I mean).
The first thing I did - I changed to Mobil1 after 400 miles and again after 3000 miles. In the beginning it was 20mpg and 22mpg after first oil change. I generally do not accelerate with higher than 3-4,000 rpm (sometimes). Since I bought the car in December, the weather and temperature play significant role. As tomy driving style, I'm certainly not the last nor in the middle, but you can regognize good driver by "not braking". Each engine start and acceleration is expensive.
Even if you haven't followed the above recommendations, I think that 12-15mpg is bad and indicates a problem. I would check the engine. Remeber, break-in period is important (no extensive revving - occasional are good, for few seconds)

There was a thread going around about filling up your tank at a gas station and how the pumps auto shut off (like when your tank is full) was turning off before the tank was filled up. If i remember this happened to quite a few G owners. Maybe your tank wasn't really full?

Re: 15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I
I've never gotten much better than 15-16 mpg either (I'm at 6K miles now) and I did the break-in thing just like the manual suggested!? It is pretty ridiculous. I took it to the dealer early on, but they did nothing or "found nothing wrong." I've been hoping the mileage would improve as the car gets driven more, but so far, it hasn't gotten much better, if at all. I'm not always hard on the gas either (I have my moments, but typically shift around 3K). I live in south Florida where it is warm year-round, so maybe that has something to do with it (?).

Re: 15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I
I believe it really depends on the circumstances.
I am in LA and drive mostly in freeway traffic and I consistantly only get 16-17 mpg (before break-in it was even lower).
What ever the reason, this is **** poor for a 6 cylinder. My BMW 540 ( a V8) consistantly gets 18-19 mpg driving it in the same situations.
The G seems to have a big variation as reported on this site. Probably in lighter traffic and hwy situations, it dramatically imporves.

Re: 15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I
I live in Boston but my commute is usually just on the other side of the bumper to bumper so its usually all go on the highway.
I have a 5at but I must admit that I used to shift hard in MM pushing the car up to 6,000rpm, I used to have to fill the car every other day. I took the advice from the board and for one whole gas tank, give or take a few necessary situations
I kept the car under 4,000rpm and drove mostly in auto drive. Its made it a little better but still ridiculous. I also get the smell of gasoline sometimes....is this in my head????
I just came back from the service center actually 15min ago to get a new CD changer ordered (only 3 days!) they needed my VIN and while i was there I scheduled my next service which is 8,920 miles I complained so they are going to take a look. Im also having body work done from the hit in run earlier last month (they finally got the bastard) and I'm going to have the good fellas at DBA take a look.
Hopefully one of these avenues will resolve this.

That sounds lousy even for our thirsty rides..... I'd get after the dealer to see what he can do.
I'm getting 25 on the hwy, and 16-18 city.
