That sounds lousy even for our thirsty rides..... I'd get after the dealer to see what he can do.
I'm getting 25 on the hwy, and 16-18 city.

This is one example where the dealer might hike a ride on having a mod - an intake to be more specific. Something tells me that having the Pop-Charger + Z tube combo will cause me some problems with persuading my dealer that I'm having some kind of a problem with fuel consumption. I'm no big Joe mechanic, but I can think of something the dealer might say. Something like: "Well... what did you expect? you put in a Pop-Charger with a less restrictive tube that flows much more air into the engine, so the engine in return has to compensate with pouring more gas to the mixture..."
Again, I'm not a professional, but somehow I can see it where the dealer will try to blame it on the intake.

Any thoughts? .... anyone ?

Re: 15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I do?

15mpg sounds hideous. I'm getting right around 19mpg (my nav has been consistently reading around 20mpg). I've only had the car since last October, so it's pretty much only seen cold weather. There was a period of 2-3 really cold weeks where I got around 17mpg or so for a few tanks. It coincided with the time I installed a 6 wire grounding kit. My mpg improved to the current 19mpg about 2-3 tanks after I installed the grounding kit. Before that, I believe I was averaging around 18mpg. I would say I drive about 70% highway and 30% city and most of the time my RPM is below 4k.
I'm not positive if the grounding kit helped my mpg but that might be something to look into if you don't already have it.

Re: 15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I do?

I have less than 300 miles on my G and after reading this thread yesterday I experimented with the mpg measurement included with the NAV. I have been pushing the car but nothing real bad. Anyhow I was getting 19.8mpg when I checked it with a combination hard driving.

I reset the mpg feature once I was on the freeway and drove for about twenty mins, the speeds ranged from 35 to 80mph with an average speed of about 75mph. I averaged 28.9 believe it or not! Mind you this is all highway driving, I did all my upshifting as fuel efficient as possible. I did no downshifting, just used the brembos =) Basically doing everything possible to conserve gas. But I must say that becuase of the low end grunt of our g's my passenger didn't notice that I was babying the car. I must say I am impressed with the cars ability to accelerate at such low rpms. Honestly, I was not creeping along but easily keeping up with traffic, but shifting at 2000 rpm when possible. Sure you have to run through the gears real quick but it was a fun experiment and I did get some great milage. So I guess its possible, and goes to show that 15mpg is definately not normal. Maybe someone else can give it a try and see if they can get similar results.

Oh and this was done on the CA 5 freeway with very little traffic. Heck maybe somethings wrong with my NAV or more likely me!

Where the hell in CA can you find very little traffic? In the central valley there is traffic on every freeway, highway, road, street, and avenue. At almost $3 a gallon you would think people would park it.

Re: 15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I do?

In cali i'm getting about 23 mpg (claremont area off the 210 freeway) in NY i'm getting about 18 (long island, Kings Point area) and in Pensacola FL i'm getting about 22/27 (22 during daily drives and 27 when going out to Destin).

I do a lot of traveling obviously but your car average should be at or around 20 if you shift under 3000 and never really go past 80mph... that's my experience. I've got about 17k on the car right now.

if your getting less than 20mpg and your commute is roughly half and half city/hwy...there's something wrong...

....although i did get 15mpg once when i was in NYC .... but that makes sense....

Re: 15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I

I think I'm averaging about 15 to 17 mpg in city driving. Its killing me because my car before this was a 1987 Honda CRX which was getting me 38 mpg in the city plus putting in Premium Fuel doesn't help but I didn't buy this car for the great gas mileage. What I think is funny was my 1993 z-28 camaro got better mileage.

For those of you getting 15 mpg, how are you calculating your mpg? Both the nav and the gas tank gauge are approximations. The other day my gauge was reading less than half and I had only gone ~160 miles. So you would think I was getting less than 16 mpg, but when I went to fill, I had now gone 190 miles and I needed just under 10 gallons to fill it up which is close to 19 mpg.

Re: 15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I do?

What are your commuting specifics? Are you driving 3 miles back and forth to work each day or do you have a longer commute?

My mileage is up from an initial 19.6 mpg up to about ~22 mpg (I use the [gallons used/miles driven] approach NOT the Nav or the fuel needle). I now have 11,000 miles on my car and the only accessories I have are the Z-tube, wires and a Pop-charger. I'm adding Mobil One oil later today so I'm expecting it to go up another mpg or so. I've never tried improving my mileage, but I would guess that if I made a few minor changes to my driving, I could increase my mileage to 25+ mpg.

My daily commute is about 22 miles each way from work-to-home plus I throw in a couple of 1 or 2 mile errand runs every day (lunch, cleaners, visiting clients, etc). San Diego has plenty of stop-n-go traffic so that reduces my mileage too. When there is no traffic, I'm either driving 85+ on the freeway or accelerating aggressively in the city. I should be getting 15 mpg but I've NEVER been that low...

If I were you I'd keep bugging the dealer until they took the time to check my car out...

Re: 15mpg would be a gift from the gods..what do I do?

I don't have Nav, so I divide the number of miles driven by the amount it takes to fill up. I have a 3.5 mile commute, which is stop&go and my city/hwy driving is about 80/20. I occasionally push the car over 4K, but usually shift around 3K, like I said before, but I'm still only getting 15-16 mpg after 6K miles!?

15mpg? That sucks. I'm getting about 21 in mixed city/highway driving, about 50-50. I recently took a road trip from Indy down to Lexington and got 28mpg on the highway the whole down and back.

Short trips will result in worse mileage as the engine warm up takes a good portion of a 3.5 mile trip.

I would agree.

It is most likely the very short trips that are killing you here.
