Just Got Email From K&N...No CAI

I decided to write to K&N about a CAI for the Coupe. I wanted to know any information that they had available about this upcoming kit. I simply stated to them that there is rumor going around that K&N is developing a CAI for the Coupe and what information they had available. They responded very quickly and told me in a short two sentences:

Unfortunately, there is no information on the development of an intake kit for your vehicle at this time. Please check back in 60-90 days for a possible update. Also, you can check our web site at http://www.knfilters.com/ it is updated every Monday with new products.

Best Regards,

This makes me wonder if they have even given thought to a CAI yet or have they still not even developed a proto. I find this very interesting based on some of the threads posted here lately. I just figured I would throw out the line to everyone.

How quickly did they respond?
It could have been an automated response

The owner is a family friend and my company is their supplier for rubber products...I'll check into it and see if I can find out anything different...

I don't believe it was an automated response since they didn't know what question I was gonna ask to have an automated response for. Also, these manufacturers are usually really good with responding personally. Unfortunately it was a very one-on-one disappointment. On a good note though, I did speak to Injen and their CAI comes out on Tuesday.

Good deal hoshtaylor, would be nice to know if they're just being hush-hush, or they're draggin' their feet.
I'm sure they'll know about Injen's coming out Tuesday -- do you think? hahaha (make sure they do)
thanks for looking into that, dude

Re: Just Got Email From K&N...No CAI

Can someone explain to me what a CAI does? I know that cold air is compressed and can add power, but does all this contraption do is push cold air into the cylinders? I'm clueless.

Stock air intakes are usually restrictive, mainly for sound reasons, and so that you dont get dirt and water into the cylinders.
CAI is less restrictive, and pulls colder air into the cylinders, colder air is more dense, thus you can cram more air and have better combustion
(Oxygen+fuel+spark= KABOOM)
(MORE Oxygen+fuel+spark= MORE KABOOM)
Thats basically how it works. In theory though, you should be able to get 5% gain in HP/Torque in most vehicles.

Re: Just Got Email From K&N...No CAI

Check that...just got off the phone w/ the head engineer there...they ARE making a complete CAI kit for the coupe...he says there's an option for short ram or a cold air extension. Kits are in production as we speak and will be out in April. Volunteered my coupe and asked him what the results looked like and he said they tested 7 coupes and the kit is putting 11hp to the wheels and he also said, "that's a great engine to work with" :-)

There you go guys...

If you're interested in reading more about this, you should check out a thread in the Tech/Mods forum about the K&N CAI. I think it's titled something like "Phresh Dyno...." something or other.

Re: Just Spoke with K&N...YES on the CAI

Are you referring to the car being "extremely loud" inside or outside of the car? I wouldn't exactly call it extremely loud inside...

It's not extremely loud, but it's relatively raucous for a luxury car. Just the way I like it.
